So I've been after a new iPhone for a bit now after being with android for many years (currently got a Samsung S8). I think the last iPhone I owned was the iPhone 4. I've been changing my mind daily between the X, XR and XS. I'll be buying sim free as I'm still in contract so I was debating a brand new XR or a refurbished/used X or XS. I had a play with the XR today at Carphone Warehouse and it's a beautiful device but I just felt it was a bit too big for me so that's out of the equation now.

Computer Exchange (CEX) have the iPhone XS 64gb in grade A condition for £785 which I don't think is too bad. The only thing is CEX don't have the best reputation in the planet and when spending such a large amount of money it does make me nervous! Especially as none of the store selling it are local to me so I'd have to buy online.

So just as I walked through my front door after having a play with the phones I got a stock alert from smartfonestore that a brand new sealed iPhone X 64gb in grey was in stock at £639! Well that was a massive sign to me and I've just purchased the only 1 in stock! It was a bit of a impulse buy but as it was the only 1 I know I had to make a quick decision before it went. I'm not a massive spec-junkie so I know the X will be more than adequate for what I want! At £639 I think it's a bargain for a brand new iPhone X and I couldn't really warrant spending an extra £150 for the XS which has potentially been used as well as the more precarious retailer.

Excited is an understatement! Can't wait for it to arrive now!

Congrats!!! That’s cool. I had an X before I got my Xs Max and was happy with it for the most part. The main thing I missed was the display size of the Xs Max. Having a bigger phone doesn’t bother me. I’m sure you will love the X.

Yeah. If not going for the larger one the regular X is fine. FaceID works just as well as with the new S model and the device is still no slouch.

Still, I don’t know why you don’t just get subsidised on contract if you’re in the UK. Unless you’ve got bad credit. I could never afford my XS Max if not subsidised. Gonna take three years to pay it off but I’m good with having it for that long.

I've still got 12 months left of my current contract sadly so it would cost me an arm and a leg to get out of it.
I'm gonna sell my S8 as well so that'll bring the overall cost down again.

The X is such a great phone I hope you’re really happy with it! I think you made the right choice in terms of getting the X instead of the XS, the XS is definitely the better phone but I don’t think it’s £150 better, $150 I’d say yes but not £150.

The X could've been released this year & it'd still be a brilliant phone, competing with other flagships. IOS12 has turned it into a beast. Get that finger gliding over its screen (keep it clean & smooth), master those gestures & you'll appreciate its responsiveness for at least another couple of years.

One thing I would have to disagree with is the Face ID. I had the X for a year before getting the Xs Max and from my experience there is a definite improvement in the Xs Max. However it’s not a major one and the Face ID in the X is still pretty good.

That sounds an amazing deal I've just signed up for stock alerts so hopefully I will be as fortunate as you and grab one

Trust me it’s all placebo. Any improvements came with the iOS update. I have observed literally no difference otherwise. It performs as well as it did with the X and fails at the same points. However, I found the X learned over time so perhaps the Xs Max will get markedly better as time goes on and it learns me.
