I recently picked up a Pawn shop special, a 2014 Mac Mini 8GB, 2.6 Ghz. Tested and ran well, pretty clean exterior, no signs of abuse and such.

But before the purchase ($203), I decided to delve into the date it was actually manufactured, using the serial number itself. To my delight looks like it was manufactured the first half of 2018 (code W). According to this page: "The fourth character of the serial number represents both the year the device was manufactured in, and whether the device was manufactured in the first or second half of the year”.

And after breaking it down to upgrade to an SSD, I would agree. I think that the mini saw very little use.

Maybe this will be of interest to you, since it breaks down the serial number. If I am off base please chime in.......if not, this is a pretty cool bit of information.

Either way this should be an interesting thread.
