Anybody's MBP suffers from decolouration due to old age and long usage at the palm rest and keyboard area? I just want to confirm, because if there is, I will buy some protectors to go over.

yes, some people report that their palm rests become shiny

the shiny thing is from use over several years. and keep the palm rest clean usually alleviates this problem.

I can recommend Bestskinsever. They have quality skins at cheap prices. For the palmrest for the 13" 2009 MacBook Pro (identical in dimensions to the 2010 13" MacBook Pro), it is around $8-$9.

Use windex and a paper towel every few weeks. No need for a shield.

Windex is a bad idea. It can be damaging to the aluminum. If the OP really wants to, he can buy some iklear to use, but a damp cloth is really all it takes to clean the exterior.

I use alcohol on my keys+metal

I use a screen cleaner with a microfiber cloth on the screen.

My space key is getting shiny where my thumb hits it (on the right side). Some keys are getting slight shiny patches in the middle.

Macbook is 8months old.

Windex has ammonia, wouldn't it harm the aluminium coating of the MBP?, I use it to clean the screen and it's great...
