Hello All,

Is there a list someplace of the original (default) app locations for the OS apps? I had been trying to organize my apps by putting them into folders, renaming the apps, renaming folders, etc.

Eventually this started creating havoc as software updates would not find the app and/or duplicate apps would be created.

My solution now is to create my own "applications folder" using aliases and organizing that at will, like I can in Windows, but I need to return my apps to normal first.

If there is no easy way to find the original locations, then I will have too do a clean install.

So a list of the default locations would be fantastic. I have Lion now, but 10.6 would work also.

Thanks!

Hi Sorry I was not very clear. I made extra folders inside the Applications folder and moved apps from the root Applications folder into these subfolders. Some apps already had subfolder, like "Tools" and "Utilities". I found this to be redundant, so I combined the two, which is where the problems begin. Now I cannot remember what goes inside tools by default, for example, and which applications are in the root of the folder and not in a subfolder.

I hope that makes more sense. Thanks.

Here's a list of mine (OS 10.5.8) I've added Folder to distinguish some of them, and I did delete things that I know were not part of the original installation.

You're welcome, but it didn't take much time. Just copy 'n paste, and highlight and delete. I hope that helped you put things back in their original places.

It's helping me tool. I see that I have two copies of Dictionary. That's probably due to my habit of adding the version number to the app name. You'll also note that the iWork and iLife apps are not all in alphabetical order. That' because I put most of them in folders. Never use them, never update them.
