HomePod Default audio prevents airplay?

Have updated minis to HomePodOS 15

having issues

1. I can’t use the Siri remote to change volume. Only the TV remote seems to work

2. the HomePods are no longer a working airplay target. I can select them but volume control doesn’t work and nothing plays out from them. The icon in the airplay menu is one HomePod and appletv

I think there is a bug. I set up my Homepod Minis as "Default Audio" but I can't get the audio to play from it.

I set my minis as default and after that I can’t airplay to them from my iPhone without the TV turning on, there used to be an arrow to unlink them on phone but it’s gone in ios15

I unpaired and then reset both minis then repaired. Since then the volume is now working as expected with Siri remote.

I need to check if TV turns on or not with Airplay. I suspect it might as it's actually the AppleTV that is the target now.
