I've been searching Google for a solution to this - I like all my Finder windows to be the same size, no matter what folder it is. Keeps everything looking universal. Nothing annoys me more than having to keep resizing bloody windows, because the default size has horizontal and vertical scroll bars! I like my Finder window to accommodate 5 folders horizontally.

I've been looking into Terminal commands to see if there is anything in there that would allow me to change the default dimensions, but found nothing.

Anyone else interested in a solution to this?

theres no way to resize the default Finder window. but im like you i want my Finder windows a decent size, but i want all them to be this size.

the way i got around this is to close all Finder windows, click the Finder dock icon which opens your home folder by default, resize the window to how i want and then it should open at that size.

i then place all the folders that i would open in a new window and want to resize in the sidebar and command-click them which opens them in a new window. i then resize all these windows to match the the size of my home folder.

now whenever you open a folder it should be at your desired size. but you will always come across the default window size when you "show package contents" or open a Finder search window with no other Finder windows open.

From what I've heard, if you hold command+option, and then resize your finder to what you want, it works.

I am so with you mate, I want to have them all the same size and it is so annoying having to resize them all! I wish there was simple key command to use that would apply to all the windows because I tried the command+option and it don't work unfortunately:(

Bringing this thread back from the dead... kinda.

Anyone found any info on permanently resizing the finder window?

I have Finder setup to only view names and sizes of files/folders, not date modified, so I have an extra inch and a half or so of wasted space in the finder window.

Edit: I think I just figured it out...

This worked for me:
1. Open new window
2. Change window size
3. "Touch" something in the window (file or folder) so it's highlighted
4. Close window

So far my Finder window has stayed the size that I made it, even after quitting Finder and re-launching it.
