Is there anyway to change the default output volume? cause every time i plug my headphones on my macbook it's like the thing wants to leave me deaf

Are you saying that plugging in headphones changes your system volume unasked? I know from experience that the sound cards Apple puts in their laptops are flaky as hell.
yes, i could have it in 2 squares using the speakers and when i connect the headphones it goes up to 9 squares, is that not normal? 😕
