Hi I have the latest Apple TV 4K and just bought and set up the HomePod Mini. The Apple TV was setup in the home app as “living room”. Setup the HomePod and it’s in the same room. Problem is I can’t change the default audio from the Apple TV to play on the HomePod. When I go to default audio device, it just shows my Samsung TV as an option. Both running latest OS and both work fine. How do I do it?

The Homepod Mini cannot be set as the default permanent audio output of an Apple TV 4K. That feature is reserved for the original Homepod. However, you can Airplay from your Apple TV to the Homepod Mini. Just select it as an Airplay audio target from the Apple TV control center (press and hold the tv shaped button of the Siri Remote to bring it up).

Really? Ah I wish I’d got the bigger one now then lol. This Mini sounds amazing for its size

If you think the little one sounds amazing...
I think it sounds amazing for it’s size yeah. Obviously I’ve heard better but not at this size. So the HomePod is a lot better sound? It says the sounds is all around on the HomePod. No point in two of them in stereo then?

Probably miscommunicated that but that’s what I was trying to say. If you think the mini sounds amazing... you should try the full size HomePod.

I agree though. For the size and price, the mini sounds great.

I you are going to use it a lot for music and specially for movies with the apple tv, buying another homepod mini for a stereo pair is imperative. In fact, two minis make a susprisingly good (and cheap) wireless stereo system.

My mini is in the kitchen to play radio stations and podcast while I cook. For that, stereo isnt really necessary. In the living room, I have two big Homepods stereo paired linked with an Apple TV 4K. Very impressive for what they are.

Stereo pair made a huge upgrade in sound for me.

Which would give a better surround sound? 2x HomePod minis or 1x HomePod placed in the centre?

The latter. However, I think the benefits of having real stereo are more important. So, my advice to you is to buy another Mini.
