Well that’s definitely out of the question!

Yeah it’s defiantly not that bad and I’m not going to return it but if Apple is willing to replace it I won’t stop them.
Mine has that exact same mark and so did the several replacements I tried. The manager at the Apple store was great and told me I can bring it back and exchange it in future if Apple do end up improving the quality.

I got mine yesterday and it had small bubbling on the outside and a larger defect on the right hand edge of the keyboard palm rest. Took it back to the Apple Store today, they agreed it was no good but the replacement was worse. Opened up two more which were also no good before deciding the original one was the best of the lot and keeping it. Both the display models in the store also had similar defects. It’s a bit disappointing given the price of these keyboards but not sure what I can do at this point.

Wow. That's appalling.

It’s such a strange choice of material for this purpose. I’m all for an accessory that facilitates using an iPad as a laptop replacement—it makes a lot of sense given the amount of largely untapped horsepower in these machines. And Apple’s overall design is solid despite a few compromises (no portrait mode, function keys, limited viewing angles.)

But who the hell ever asked for a vinyl/rubber-coated laptop? Craziness.

I agree. I am concerned that the vinyl will wear fairly poorly and will be subject to easy tears and to delamination. Certainly, at this price point, it's an odd choice.

Well my 12.9 white magic keyboard has some bubbles, I have had it 3.5 weeks. Was really hard to notice, under lights can't see it but in natural light it stands out. I have no idea if it was like this when I purchased it. Thankfully my local apple store are excellent and they swapped it out for me no issues when I showed them the picture as they couldn't see it in store. They could feel the bumps however.
