The home button on my new 3rd generation iPad feels loose and makes a very loud, hollow clicking sound when I tap it. It's definitely noticeable and very annoying. I'm guessing they must have forgotten to apply adhesive or used too little.

I decided to check some of the display models at the Apple Store, and two out of six iPads had the same problem. Has anyone else noticed this defect?

Had this problem with my first iPhone 4 and they replaced it for me. Current one had the same issue after a month. I ended up rubbing WD-40 between the home button and the glass. Got rid of the click/creaking sound so I'm happy. My iPad didn't have this problem though. I would take it back and tell them about it, it drove me nuts.

I do not think the home button was designed to be "tapped".

Just push it in with your finger tip!:)

yes because you have that problem it means its common

Maybe it has something to do with the ipad's model,
so what i recommend to do is to post a reply with your model number, details about your model and about the home button like this:

Model number: MD329HB

The New iPad (3rd gen) white Wi-Fi only 32 Gigs white color

Home button is in an angle: slightly raised on the right side and perfectly flush on the left side

and than you can compare your ipad with other people

You can find the model number under "settings" -> "General" -> "About"

Good luck :)
