Hi,
All the holes around the Ultra have a mesh installed in them. But the hole above the crown, the depth gauge, has a wrinkled and folded piece of mesh somehow.

Can someone confirm this is within spec and normal? And is it perhaps a membrane? Or is it a defect?

Thanks!

turn "launch depth app when submerged" on and submerge it and watch the depth meter ...

I would but I don't have a loupe or a macro lens ... iPhone doesn't cut it for that
Took the pictures with my 13 pro max! 😁
Couldn't believe it my self after I saw the detailed results.
Just normal 1x mode with flash on.
The macro mode kicks in automatically and is ridiculously good for a phone camera!

Ok, I guess I’ll have to give that a try

Is this for real?
What do you mean? You dont think its a legitimate question?
When all the holes have a piece of mesh and just one hole doesn't it looks off and could potentially be a defect.
Because I wasnt sure, Macrumors was the best spot to ask this question.
Have the watch for a day now and could send it back if it was faulty...
Assuming you mean that.

Or are you just having a bad day and using this post to ventilate, if so, go ahead buddy, no insult was taken.

Again, assuming you think this is a ridiculous question to ask..

He means are we really to the point that we’re complaining about things that border on microscopic? If you’re going to be this much of a nit pick just return it.
Because its small its nit picking?

Its a dept gauge and dont want a faulty one.

In your logic even a defective microscopic solder point, which could have big consequences, would be nit picking..
Doesn't maken any sense to be honest..

Im not talking about scratches but about an important part of the functionality of the watch.

And i'm not sending a product back when im not sure it is faulty...

If you have any more complaints, be my guest.

Took a look at mine with a ten power jewellers loop. Your photos are fairly good. Looks like a feature machined into the titanium case to my eye. Mine looks identical and I have zero concerns about it. Had I noticed this prior to seeing your post I would be worried, but not about the watch ;)

Is your depth gauge faulty? Have you tried it? If you haven’t, then all you’re doing is complaining about a microscopic cosmetic issue. I don’t give a damn how sloppy a solder point is if the product functions without issue.

Thanks a lot!

Im pretty sure now its not faulty and its a bellow or membrane for the pressure sensor.

Thanks again!

It's possible you might change your opinion in the future. I've had several electronic devices that suddenly stopped working due to cold solder joints. As the device goes through hot/cold cycles, it eventually fails.

You are making assumptions sir.
And your logic is too simple to be honest..
Im not talking about cosmetics. Im talking purely functionality (which can be seen with the eye).

You saw a cosmetic issue and assumed your watch was faulty. You’ve not even tested the depth gauge from what I can gather, so you ASSUMED something was wrong based on cosmetics alone.

At this point i can only advise you to think about what you are saying..
And again, aesthetics (what you mean I guess) had nothing to do with my question.
Im done with this childish discussion.

Update:

To all you SOB’s with OCD;

I can confirm its a membrane/bellow and the small wrinkle/fold in the membrane is within spec and all inspected Ultra’s on display at an Apple Store in Amsterdam had it.

I can live in peace now. 😉
