At that point is it permissible to unlock it? That is really what I care about - for overseas travel.

Also, will buying through NEXT run a credit check? While I normally wouldn't care, I may be applying for a mortgage in the next six months or so, and would prefer to keep my credit report inquiries to a minimum.

Once it's paid off, AT&T will unlock it for you. Not sure about the credit check, but I would think if you're already an AT&T customer in good standing, there's no need for it.

Carrier switch after device paid.

We have three lines on AT&T family share with 10gb. If we get three new devices on NEXT and pay them off immediately, can we switch to verizon? Any catch there on ETFs?

Thanks in advance!

I've got a question.
If I pre-order on the App and add Next 18. (Currently out of contract on a launch day iPhone 5)
Can I choose to pick up in Apple store rather than home delivery? In in FL and my account holder is in MA. With the 5 I pre-ordered at my local att and picked it up on Saturday after launch day.

Looks like if you don't care about upgrading after a year the cheaper way is to go with the 2 yr plan but if you want to upgrade for sure after a year the cheaper route is the Next 12 plan.

Maybe the smarter people here can help..

I have a 5S and am not eligible until Nov. 2015. I used to have 2 lines going on AT&T so I would have an upgrade every year. That's when a line was only 9.99 a month. Now with the way the shared data plans are, it's $40 a month.

So my options are to ..

1 - Add a line and get the 6 for $299 and pay an ETF after a week or two.
2 - Go with NEXT and pay off the phone at the end so I don't have to trade it in.

What do you all think? I pay $60 a month right now for my AT&T bill. I don't want or have the money to buy the phone outright.

Suggestions?

There's no ETF. You will have paid for the phones in full. But Verizon will not activate phones originally purchased for AT&T's network. You can have AT&T unlock them and use them on another GSM carrier, like T-Mobile.

So my Wife got her 5s last December, 2 year contract. We are on opposite years. She would love to get a 128, 6 Plus. The screen size will make a big difference for the eyesight. For my line, my 2 years are up, so not an issue.

1. If we sign her up for NEXT, she will be free and in the clear without ETF of the 5s and be able to sell to put back towards the 6+?

2. Can you put money down up front to buy down the phone thereby reducing the monthly payment? I did see where you can pay in full at any time, which is cool.

3. With NEXT, there really is no 2 year agreement, etc. If you pay off the phone, it's yours and you just pay your monthly bill?

Thanks!

To piggy back on the previous post, I'm trying to figure out how the trade-in program works with Next. I have an iPhone 5 owned out-right and want to trade it in on the purchase of the iPhone 6, how does that get applied to the NEXT purchase? Does it take it off the monthly payment? Does it just get applied as statement credit? Do I have to buy $200 worth of Paul Frank cases and Pill speakers?

Sure you'd save 350 bucks if you were eligible for and signed up for a new 2 year contract but the downside to that is you need to pay the 300 for the phone up front (with tax) and would also be ineligible for valued mobile share pricing (more money on your bill per month for each line). Also you're stuck with the 40 dollar upgrade fee.

Welllll not exactly accurate..

Since they're offering in-store credit of up to $300 toward the subsidized price of the phone ($200 in my case for either my IP4 or 5), I should be getting my IP6+ 64g or 128g (undecided) for either $199.99 or $299.99 with a $12.49 or $18.75 tax. Additionally, since I'm on a individual plan, I won't have a shared plan, making that discount null and void. So for me, the contract is absolutely the way to go. Oh and I normally don't upgrade annually as I've never owned a "S" iPhone.

So for someone who has a single line, eligible for upgrade, has grandfathered unlimited data plan (average 7-9gb/mo), unlimited text and pays $80/mo it sounds like NEXT isnt the way to go.

10gb plan $100
Access fee $40-25 discount
Total of $115 before tacking on phone cost.

Am I right?

That's correct. You're better off sticking with the old plans.

Does the same hold true for someone who pays closer to $100/month with the grandfathered unlimited plan?

On ATT Wireless website you can see what moving to the shared value plan will save. Select your data usage and it will tell you the difference. For me it shows my current bill is $140 but new plan with 4GB data would be $120.

Then you tack on the cost of the device per month (30-40). So you can then do the math on annual savings, etc.

This is my math:

can anyone confirm if this is true? im not anxious to upgrade a phone every year so if going with a 2-year plan is indeed cheaper vs. Next overall, i'll go with the 2-year plan. Please confirm, thanks!

No, it really depends on your individual circumstances (current plan, upgrade habits, etc). In our case, Next is cheaper for both yearly upgrades and 2-year upgrades (as long as we pay off the device and not do the trade in).

Just a simple question, but does Next make sense if you don't care about upgrading to a new phone every year? I am ok with keeping my phone for two years and that's what I've done since the first iPhone. Thanks.

Never mind I think I just saw my answer above. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and my wife has 2 GB which is enough for her and we pay about $100 a month after taxes and fees with my FAN discount. I think I'll stick with my current 2 year contract when I preorder tonight.

Of you have 10GB mobile share it saves you $25 a month for 24 months on the per phone charge ... I have 2 phones so the savings pay for my 2 new phones I get.

Yeah im def doing next because I already have a single AT&T line right now with the 10GB Mobile Share Plan (I get it for cheap since im an employee).

I plan on getting the 6+ 128GB model on the same share plan and since I have a 10GB plan I get the $25 discount and then 50% on plan for being an employee so I only will pay $7.50 for my plan and then the cost of the phone which is $42.45 so it will be roughly $55 more dollars on my bill...AND the offering a $100 credit for new Next members..sounds like a win to me.

It can make sense but in your case, your old plan is cheaper.

I have a few questions.

1. How does AT&T pick a value for your current phone when upgrading? Say I'm going to a more high-end phone and I'm at 12 months and I make my minimum payments. Do they make you pay some difference between values of the phone?

2. Does it make sense for grandfathered unlimited plans in terms of saving? I have unlimited data, messaging and plenty of minutes for roughly 70 a month with FAN. Are the rewards only reaped with mobile share plans?

3. Is it possible to switch back to a 2 year plan after converting to NEXT? I want to switch to Next this year and pay the phone off within the year. Then I'd like to renew my current 2 year agreement next year with my current plan. Is this possible?

A. IF YOU HAVE A CURRENT 2 YR CONTRACT ON THE LINE YOU WANT TO UPGRADE:

-- If you started the contract ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 18, 2014: You are eligible to upgrade to ATT Next on this line right now. This also applies if your contract is over. This will 1. End the remainder of your 2 year contract for this line, if any exists

Are there any sources for this?! Between my phone bill going down 40 dollars a month and the Next program, I'm starting to feel AT&T is playing a sick joke on me!

I am eligible for next and I currently have the 10g mobile share plan. Will ATT pull my credit when I pre order the iphone under Next??

Nevermind, someone answered my question above. the answer is No. Thanks.

We have 5 iPhones on a mobile shared plan of 15 GB. I bought the 5S last October.

If i select Next 12, nothing will change in regards to my shared plan right? I don't know this because i was thinking of buying contract free but don't want to risk it not being unlocked.
