What a show!

I'm not talking about Degrassi: The Next Generation here. I'm talking about the classics: Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High.

Those shows were fantastic. They covered social issues in the late 80's/early 90's that other half hour teen dramas wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole at the time. Issues like drug use, AIDS, teen pregnancy, abortion, interracial relationships, disability, homosexuality, and animal rights.

The best part of the show, however, was the cast and the low budget look of the show. The acting, IMO, was awful, but it seemed like they all thought they were so great. But that made the characters that much better. It was one of those shows where you would laugh where you really shouldn't be laughing. It added an extra element of amusement for me and my friends. We watched repeats of the show in college as well, and used to play Degrassi drinking games. I was still watching the show now and then up until I moved to LA from Toronto- it was on BBC Kids (I think?).

A few memorable characters....

-Joey Jeremiah, Wheels and Snake: The Zits (formerly The Zit Remedy)

-Katelin...... how hot was she?!

-Stephanie K (all the way with Stephanie K.....)
-Arthur and Yick
-Spike and Emma (now on The Next Generation)

Who watched it? Who loved it? Any favorite episodes?

They'll take your money,
And never give up."

Just rewatched the ENTIRE series from front to end a couple of weeks ago.

One of my favorite shows when I was a kid.

The Next Generation is actually pretty good too.

Joey Jeremiah was always the man.

Awesome. I need to buy the DVDs.

Joey was the coolest- at least he thought so. I got a fedora when I was a kid because of him......

I like the Next Generation- but it's not as good as the original, and some of the plots are a little silly. One of the girls on the show is going to be one of the stars of the new 90210.
