I used to have my delete/backspace key set up to automatically archive my Gmail messages rather than move them to the Trash, but that appears to be broken in 7.0. Is there a workaround?

I would set up a new keyboard shortcut to force it to always Archive, but would that screw up my Exchange and other accounts? The "Archive" option isn't greyed out for the Exchange, although I'm not sure its functionality....

TIA

Never mind, you can't use the Delete/Backspace key in a user-created shortcut....

I think this may have something to do with the "Archive" button in Mail finally working as expected in 7.0. Pre-Mavericks, the "Archive" button would just append a label to the message, which is not what Gmail expects to happen to a piece of archived mail. In 7.0 the "Archive" button removes the inbox label, which is excellent and proper behaviour and makes Gmail see the message as archived (as then it just goes in "All Mail").

I think through bug-fixing Apple has finally made Mail work as most would expect: hit the "delete" key to trash your messages and hit the "Archive" button to archive them. I just wish they'd let us reassign the "delete" key to allow us to archive...
