Delete photos from i6, without deleting from iCloud-possible?

Hi folks, as per title really.

I want to free up some space on my iPhone 6 by deleting photos, but I don't want to lose them altogether.

I back it up to iCloud each night and I also have a Mac running Yosemite if that helps.

Could I import the picture to the Photos app on my Mac and then delete them all from the phone?

The Mac is also connected to a Time Capsule for backups, "just in case"!

Also, is it possible to do a "bulk delete" using the phone?

Think you would need Photo Stream turned On and Photo Library Off.
