Deleted Photos on iPad

I sync'd my iPad to my Mac last night and all of the photos on my iPad were replaced with the photos that were on my Mac. Is there any way to recover the old photos from my iPad?

Are they in your Photo Stream?

iOS 5.1 allows you to delete photos from PS.
