Deleting ALL emails at once on iOS 5???

I've long wanted a way to delete a range of emails at one time rather than having to click "edit" and then tap each email - then click delete. Apple should create a way to tag a range of emails so you can mass delete easier.

Agreed and it would be a rather simple feature to implement.
 
i have wanted a feature like this since day 1....still cant believe Apple haven't included an option to do so.

You guys are missing the point in trying to defend Apple's short sighted policy.

I almost think they didn't include it because they have no idea how real business works.

All they need to do is add a mark all, then let me choose delete or read.

Everyone is happy and it is so easy to implement.

One of the reasons I can't wait to jailbreak my phone again.

Try this:
1. Go to the account
2. Select the inbox.
3. Tap edit & select any email
4. Hold down the MOVE button
5. While holding the Move button, deselect the email
6. Release the Move button
7. Select the folder where you'd like to move the mail

It worked for me (iPad 2, iOS 5). It may seem like a lot of steps, but when you actually do it, it's not as hard as it reads.

Wow, just tried this now and it worked!
Amazing, thank you so much.
I tried it with Mark instead of Delete and that worked.

It seems to crash my iPhone 4S but on the iPad, no problems.

Every single person living in Japan, where they've left SMS to die long ago and just use mobile email to send text messages to each other as everyone is assigned a mobile email address for messaging at the time of activation? Not to mention that in Japan, sending messages is the de facto standard over voice calls. You very quickly end up with a cluttered inbox with 10,000 mobile messages. Remember, just because you don't use email on your phone, doesn't mean other parts of the world don't--in Japan, it's the primary contact method.

Get a few thousand of them and it does slow the phone down excessively. Sure you could sit there and delete them day in day out, but who wants to sit around doing that when there should be a simple function to delete them all at once?

People should stop making excuses for basic functionality Apple should've included. If Android didn't implement this basic, obvious, USEFUL function and Apple did, everyone here would LOL @ how stupid Android would be.

Thats awesome I've been looking for a way to mark all emails as read for ages.

Shame its not more obvious

I use IMAP mail, not POP, so deleting all the emails on my iPhone would, in turn, delete all emails off the server, and thus when I looked in my inbox, I would have no emails there eithor. :eek:
 
Well...

It's your duty to pick a phone that has software that fits your needs. If you don't educate yourself then you can blame yourself.
 
I have my email set up through exchange and when I read it in one place it reads it every where. If i delete it on my computer its gone on my iPhone and iPad.

Since most people use IMAP or Exchange on the phone this wouldn't be really beneficial. Why don't you just delete the mail profile on your phone if you only want to view it on your mac? I myself find it incredibly useful if I'm out of the office and need to dig something up in my mail, but if you don't use it like that, it really doesn't make sense to even have on your phone. I can also see you coming back in 2 days complaining that Apple deleted all your mail.
 
I'm not caught up on the thread, so you can disregard my comment, but it's amazing to see people criticizing someone for requesting Apple implement such simple features.

This isn't the first time people on this board have been harangued for the audacity of wanting a feature Apple hasn't put in yet. So unless Apple puts it in, no one must need it, and if they ask for it, they should change their method of usage or switch to a different phone? What if the OP is very much invested in everything else iOS does?

The fact of the matter is, iOS is amazing, but in some areas, it is strangely backward. People who refuse to admit this, is actually doing disservice to Apple's branding.

The ones who continuously propagate the myth that Apple products, namely the iPhone in this case, are perfect and "just work" are actually doing disservice to the brand and to other fans of the iPhone. And so when I recommend an iPhone to people who have bought into this myth, and something doesn't work, people are confused and feel mislead. They risk becoming disenchanted.

While problems may not have happened to you personally, the fact of the matter is that glitches and problems do exist. Antennaegate, disappearing icons, a keyboard that can't keep up with fast thumbing speeds (have you seen how many iPhone autocorrection websites there are out there for our entertainment and amusement?), folders sometimes causing lag, etc. The list goes on.

So if you truly are an Apple fan (or a fan of anything), the best way to promote it is to actually be honest and realistic about it.This is known as intellectual honesty, and in the long run, that'll do better service to Apple.

I have over 4 billion unread emails. We definitley NEED a delete all button.
