Deleting Applications on Mac?

I am new to Mac and I heard that deleting an app is very easy, however, that some leave files behind so to download a file like apptrap, etc.

1. Is this really necessery?
2. Is there a free version that works just as well?

Finally, a free, alternative is AppCleaner.

Do you mean AppZapper? AppTrap is free, and open-source.

Another vote for Appcleaner, I've tried a few similar apps and settled on that one.
