Is there any way to force the deletion of a backup in icloud? At the moment I cannot backup my ipad because the icloud version is corrupted in some way and will not back up nor delete normally with my ipad.

Yes, in iCloud on your iPad you can go to manage storage and then delete the specific backup you want.

Having this very same issue. My 3GS backup is still there and it's taking up most of my 5GB limit, I've been trying to delete it for the last two days with no luck. My new 4S needs the space.

If you have lion or windows you can log into iCloud there through settings or the control panel thing and then manage storage on it. I don't think Snow Leopard has this yet if you're a mac user.

It looks like you can delete backups from here, not sure if it'll work for you but it's worth a try.

Thanks! However, I already tried that. Downloaded the program to my Windows 7 install and tried it, still no dice. Says, "A problem occurred while deleting "My iPhone". Please try again later."

I also tried deactivating everything from my old 3GS, still nothing.

Apple touts being easy and user friendly, but this whole transition from my 3GS to the 4S has been a nightmare. I'm also getting duplicate voice memos that I can't shake no matter what I do.

As far as this backup, it seems that iCloud simply doesn't want me to get rid of that lone, rogue, backup which I no longer use.

Still no dice too, the problem seems to be on the iCloud server. It doesn't want to give permission to delete this one back up. My problem isn't space, it's that I cannot backup my iPad, to the old file or to a new

Odd.. I did successfully do that a few days ago, using the iCloud bit in System Preferences - as it didn't (as you say above) work by deleting on my iPhone or iPad...
Try doing it on a Mac in Sys Prefs?

You could try emailing Apple Support. They might be able to nuke it for you.

They had better be careful, this 'bug' is conveniently causing users to be 'shaken down' into purchasing more iCloud storage....not a good situation.

I talked to someone at Apple today and the only thing they could do for me was give me an extra 10GB of storage for the next year.

    5.0.1 didn't help.

RAJPAL, you'd better edit your post & obfuscate your email address or you're in for a world of spam. :(

I;m a member of this group now as well....yay!! :D

just got off the phone with apple....i pretty much need to work there as i tried everything he did.

i noticed that after the restore the "photo's" app was downloading photos from somewhere "my guess the cloud" and u cannot stop it from doing so......when I tried to delete the backup it kept saying its errored or "in use". My guess is that the stupid auto download of pictures if stopping me from deleting the backup.....im halfway finished downloading all fo these pictures after a fresh restore. after this if I cant delete the backup i/m gonna have to call apple and let them know and basically delete my iCloud and create a new account.....so stupid.

Steve woyld not be pleased. wish I could "option-delete" this bugger away LOL.

PS at this point if i take a picture on the phone it doesnt even save to the photo library. talk about glitch-ridden apple products (don't worry I've bought them since the 90's, i'm used to it)

If you look at the backup page in settings on your phone it will say something like "currently restoring from backup" It literally waits until ever last photo and app has been re-downloaded before that goes away. My guess is there is some prevention method there to keep you from deleting a back up before it's done being used in a restore (think of a temporary lock). Once the device has told iCloud that the restore is complete then it should unlock that backup I would imagine.

^^^i was on the phone with tier 2 apple support for 2 HOURS last nite...they never suggested that and i wans't familiar with that...matter of fact: that option isn't even ON my phone....never seen that.

wipe the phone clear, setup as NEW iPhone, DON'T restore from a backup, and manually add all of your info. then sync it for a fresh sync.

I'm no longer using iCloud as it could do it again if it gets stuck halfway. on another side note my 2-day old iP4s just had a SIM card issue this morning, so I'm on another NEW iP4s :D.

just remember: no iCloud, no problems. :)

Didn't help solve the problem. It sounds like if you get a headache, you will cut your head off, won't you?
