Go to phone > contacts > individual you wish you delete > edit > scroll down to the bottom of the contact and click on delete.

I agree it is not as obvious and straightforward as it could be.

I think having the "Delete" and similar buttons at the bottom probably results in less user error. It's mostly consistent in iOS.

agree, if i'm deleting bulk contacts then i do it on my computer.

i rarely am deleting anyone's number anyways.

I have been using Groups since iOS 6.

Do you have you have iCloud enabled specifically for contacts easily do via iCloud.com on your contacts app via Mac and it will update on iPhone 

I'm always looking for solutions to my 'problems'.

OK, first world problems, but, ah well…

Here's the kicker of this app though and the original reason I got it. You can use it to create groups on the device. There is no stock way to create contact groups on the device. But this app will do it for you. That's been handy for me because I do not own any computer that will sync with my devices so there is no external way for me to create contact groups except for this app.

Additionally, it will let you move contacts between groups.

All the way around, been an excellent app for years now.
