OK, for the new guy here, I've used the search, and haven't come up with a definitive answer. Just how does one go about completely deleting a program or file? Are there any orphan files left scattered about such as in windows? I know there's no "registry" to worry about either. So, if I just drag a program to the trash, it's gone???

For the most part dragging and dropping the application to the trash should cover your bases (and running repair permissions in disk utility couldnt hurt either.)

You can try checking the install medium (software CD, DVD or Image file) for a uninstall option, or even running the installer again may prompt you to remove an application as well.

9) Try Removing Application Receipts
If you're reinstalling an application or updating an existing one, try removing the application's receipts. Look for any receipts that bear the name of the application in the the Receipts folder inside of the main Library folder (/Library/Receipts) and move them elsewhere. Then try installing or updating your software again.

-AppZapper is also another good solution.
