So I got a bunch of files there, taking up 20gb of space, and its mostly music... I don't even know how i got that much, since on itunes it says i only have 12 gigs.

Anyways, if i delete all that crap will i still be able to play my itunes songs?

All up in your bidness
It depends on whether any of them are in the iTunes library. One way to check would be to close iTunes, move them all out (NOT delete them yet), reopen iTunes, and try to play a random sampling of all your music (such as one song of each album). If it all works, then cross your fingers and delete. There may be Applescripts available to make this process easier...

Actually this is one thing has puzzled me quite a bit....I had close to 20gig of sngs on my older comp which I copied into my mac (music folder)...when I checked later I observed that my HD went down by >30gig, most of the songs have been arranged into subfolders and albums in the itunes library....but I did not try and delete the songs in the music folder out of the same fear that I would lose all the songs....what would be the best solution for me!!??

To Sundance Kid and ajampam,

If you have an external drive, or know someone who will let you borrow thiers, I would suggest moving the music over to the external. Check everything out with iTunes. I would say run through EVERY song (not completely, but just click it to make sure it exists). If its all cool after that, feel free to delete the music on the external drive.

i just found out that the 20 gigs i said b4, is actually 3.2 gigs. I took it out of the shared folder to see if any of my songs would be affected in itunes but the weren't. Actually i figured out that all the songs in the shared folder are copied songs, the good ones in the itunes folder. So for now, just cause it takes up no room, i'm just going to leave them there :)
