Hi. After backing up a 138 GB folder to iCloud I deleted the folder from my HD. However this did not open up space in the HD. I tried disk utility both normal and recovery mode, but this did not work. I was using file vault. I disabled it but it didn't help. I'm on Ventura 13.6. What do you suggest? Should I worry? Thanks.

I found out the issue. I need to do "remove download" to free up space. It is confusing.

Yes....Remove download would leave the local folder as a signpost to iCloud. if you actually delete the folder locally it will be deleted on iCloud. iCloud is a syncing tool between local devices and the Cloud.
