Deleting iPad mail message?

Why can't an iPad mail message be easily deleted by sliding the message to the left, like you can do on the iPhone (even before iOS 8)?

The choices are "More", "Flag", and "Options". Deleting an email message should logically be a one step process.

Very frustrating.
