I use the Mail app on my iPad and pretty much delete each message as it comes in. I store them on my iMac so I use the iPad mail just to read the new e-mail that comes in.

Is there a quick way to delete all the mail that is in the trash? I don't see any select all button for messages and it is such a pain to have to delete them from my inbox to my trash and then go into my trash and delete them all again.

Yes you can very easily. Go to trash touch edit button on top then select all and delete.
