deleting iphoto pictures

i had pictures from my camera that are in iphoto but can not fully delete them.

i can move them into iphoto trash but cannot get them delete out of this also?

my mate states there is a empty trash icon but its not there on my iphoto

i have iphoto 08 btw

I think that 'Empty Trash' is an option in the File menu.

If not, try control-clicking on the Trash bin in iPhoto and see if an empty trash option appears.
