deleting song from itunes

Does deleting a song from an iTunes playlist delete it from the "Library" and it's gone for good?

And songs in playlist are just links correct? Hopefully itunes doesn't COPY (ugh) songs when I drag them from "Library" to "MyPlaylist".

Playlist songs are just links, yes- and deleting a playlist entry will not delete the original file. Deleting the library entry SHOULD prompt you and ask if you would like to delete the original from your iTunes library. This might depend however on whether or not you keep your tunes consolidated, or if you keep random tunes scattered across your drive. (Not recommended)

And if you do want to delete a song from the playlist 'for good', pressing option+delete would give you the prompt.
