Just downloaded and loaded this on my imac.

I must say I'm impressed. It did a good job scanning books and my old graduate school text books.

I've to try this on my DVD/Blu Ray and vinyl album collectiion; so I'm looking forward to it. If it works I'll purchase a license.

If they bring comic book support i would be definitely interested though i have a feeling we will not be seeing that. If they do they can have my money.

If you guys collect stuff (media and other stuff as well) you should look up Collectors by Sort It! Apps on the iPhone. Has almost every collectible you can think of, with barcode scanning. Free to try.

It also syncs with iPad, Mac app, Android, a free website (sortitapps.com), and a Windows app coming soon.

I've used Delicious Library for years.

It is good for cataloging for insurance purposes.

In addition, if you have alot of books/movies/music/games, etc., it saves you from purchasing something, getting home, and realizing you already own it.

DL2 is not good for vinyl records because it won't access the Discogs database. Amazon isn't nearly complete enough for vinyl LPs.

Best use for me...

The best use case for me with Delicious Library was to use it to create an inventory of all my books, CDs, DVDs, and then list them all for sale in my Amazon Storefront.

Delicious Library made this process very simple. Now that I have converted everything to digital content, I have no desire to keep piles of CDs with breaking jewel cases, or DVDs collecting dust in my attic.

I utilize iTunes Match for my music library, and I rely on Apple TV and Netfllix for my movies. For books, very few books are worthy of keeping for years upon years once I have read them a couple times, so... I list everything and post it all for sale.

It would be great if an iOS companion app supported barcode scanning to make the process easier than using a laptop or my iMac's web cam.

ugh..

"major shift is from being just a "know what you own" app to a recommendation engine based on the products you own"

Oh for the love of Junior Johnson, please, no, stop, just f'in stop.

If this works as well as Amazon, Facebook, and google, I suspect I'll be getting more recommendations for crap I have no interest in at all cluttering and ruining what otherwise would be a great app. (never-mind I actually care about my privacy and really don't want Delicious Monster grabbing my collection data to generate these "recommendations".. yeash.

Just stop it already.

I hope there's a way to turn this crap off in the preferences.

Otherwise this update is DOA for me. Will not buy/update. At any price.

Holy s.....skeuomorphism. This is one of examples of how not to do app design. :/ Jjj..just why?

This is an example of how doing skeumorphims right. this is sexy.

If you want text only UI with 3 colors, go back to windows 3.11 thanks.

This would be great to have! I remember syncing text notes to my Video iPod and then the web-app DL had working. It would be nice to have a fully-enabled iOS app. I have a decent collection of LPs, DVDs, Blu-rays and even LaserDiscs that I'd love to have on-the-go. I'm often at a thrift store or a record shop and sometimes I can't quite remember what edition of what I may have... on what format!

Let's hope that 'soon' means in a few weeks or less. :D

They did have an iOS app for a short while, but their app was based off of Amazon's API and Amazon has strict no-mobile app restrictions about using their API, so they had to pull the app. Hopefully they found an alternate solution to the problem with this new release. Crowd sourcing has it's own share of problems. I've tried tons of cataloging apps on iOS that are crowd-sourced, but the data is terrible. You'll get wrong or incomplete info more often than getting the right info. Ideally they would pull information from multiple sources and do some type of quality control or rating system on any crowd-sourced data. There is so much more that could be done in this area than what's already being done.

Oh, I didn't know that. Honestly, the lack of an iOS app was kind of a limiting-factor for me. Now that you've helped me out, I'll keep my eyes open for strong reviews about it.

Looks like a shameless rip-off of the iBooks interface.

Hardly. It is very much in line with their previous releases pre-iBooks era. I loved DL but it ran terribly and began to give me many issues. I welcome this as I use another app right now to find out what DVDs I currently have. I don't use it often, but I always want to check before I buy a DVD because it is possible I have it.

bought it... I was happy the first week.. then suddenly.... I forget about it. This article makes me go "Hummm... I wonder if I got that neat app installed?" Yep.. it was there... forgotten. I open it and Wow! that is a cute and great app.... five minutes later I launch AppZapper and vanished that cute app once and for all!

to be fair, DL was doing skeumorphism long before most people knew there was such a word. i fear the backlash against this style is going to go too far the other way, and in a couple of years time people will be looking at apps with flat featureless interfaces saying "this is one example of how not to do app design..."

but, back to the topic - sadly this DL update is, perhaps like its interface, too late. since DL2 i think lots of us are moving away from physical media. why have shelves of dvds when the likes of Netflix allow you to watch anything immediately?

I've been using Delicious Library to register just about anything with a barcode (except ants). It would be great if it had useful connections to services for media, CDs etc., but my main use has been to produce lists of gear and games (physical!), then publishing as a little website to show people.

Despite the iOS app being neutered (it only syncs with the Mac and receives the library, no scanning), it's useful when I go shopping to complete a collection of something or other.

I have to say the interface is ****, though. No, not the skeuomorphism - that actually works fine for this sort of thing, and you have the option to just get a regular list. It's the editing. It's really awkward. None of the text fields work like I expect Mac apps to work, and there really should be more configuration options for the display of things. For example filters to automatically bag & tag your collection based upon what Amazon's DB typically puts things in. It's always wrong ;)

Nah, I still by blu rays and games, but I mainly used the program for my books. For the short time the iOS app was out it was nice having it so I could reference it at a book store so I wasn't buying doubles.

I'm hoping the new iOS app does more then just scan or that they release a companion app so that I can have a mobile version of my collection. It would be even better if it had editing capabilities, even if they were basic.

Back when iBooks was released, there was quite a big upset over the fact that iBooks "stole" Delicious Library's UI, since DL came out first. It's actually quite funny to see it come full circle with people accusing them of ripping off Apple.

I guess I forgot the smily-face on that post ;)

Looks like the iPhone app is a scanner only.

I like the software and will upgrade, but the app would be so much more useful if next time I'm at the bookstore and can see what I have. My kids have a lot of books and sometimes we accidentally buy a duplicate.

I suppose you can export to a website, but that's not the same.

Except iBooks looks about a BILLION times better than this monstrosity!!!

Crown molding as chrome on an app!!! Ya, my mind is literally BLOWN right now at how disgusting this design is!!! Many people should be fired for this even making it to market!

A companion to Delicious Library? You should give the topic another read through or search for Delicious Library on the app store. (not the Mac App Store)
