I’d like to upgrade to an iPhone X, and now that the shipping times aren’t terrible here I’m thinking of going for it. My concern is the delivery options. Because of work I’m basically never in when deliveries happen. If something comes through the regular mail, I can just go round the corner to my local post office and collect it. If it comes via someone like UPS, after they spend most of a week on pointless failed delivery attempts they dump it some warehouse half way across the country and expect me to come and get it on a weekday during office hours. I’ve even had experiences of reasonably high value deliveries being left totally unsecured outside my door. The only way I can avoid this is by taking a day off work to sit at home and wait. Does anybody have vaguely recent experience of taking delivery of an iPhone in Switzerland ordered through Apple? Basically if it’s going to be more trouble than it’s worth I’ll just wait for supplies to improve and get one from the Zürich Apple store.

Hi there, I ordered my X the first day and got it almost 3 weeks ago. (Lausanne here, by the way)

I'm usually in the same boat. Always at work. Nobody home.

The phone was sent using DHL Express. The moment it was shipped, I received an SMS with a link which allowed me to select different delivery options, one of them being sending the phone to one of many "relay stations" (they seem to have hundreds of those!). I was hable to reroute the phone to a gas station very close to my home that closes at 10 PM. I piked it up the very same day they were supposed to deliver it to my apartment. It worked out great.

They used to work with a different carrier in the past. I don't know if this DHL thing was something special or if this is the way the do things now. I did order a couple of Apple watch bracelets later and they were also both delivered using DHL. I used the same method to pick them up.

Good luck with your order!

Thanks for the info, it looks like there are tons of those places near here, one of which is the SBB station I pass through going to/from work.

I'm giving my opinion not much about the delivery itself but about the stock delays:

Last week I was hoping for a Black Friday discount for the iPhone X. Not a single store in Switzerland offered discounts. So, at this point I was decided to buy it full price and I was looking for the retail store offering the shortest delay in delivery. Every single store (and I'm not talking about Apple Stores) in Switzerland were out of stock. No X's. No where.
Except... the Fnac web store. I placed the order on Saturday night, Monday the iPhone was shipped and I got it in a Fnac store yesterday morning.
So... three days long while everybody else is out of stock. Including Apple Store (they announced a 1/2 weeks delay).

Maybe stores have received units in the meanwhile and stocks are good again, but if not and you are in a hurry, go to Fnac. I'm sure Zürich have a Fnac. 2/3 days for in-store pick up, or 3/4 for home delivery. 😉

P.S. - I'm in the area of Fribourg, just in the border of the Neuchâtel lake.

I hadn't thought about Fnac. I just figured it was going to be out of stock for anyone other than mobile network tie-in type customers, which is something I didn't want. I'm not too bothered about waiting a week or two now, though. Thanks everyone for your suggestions (AG, near the ZH border here)
