From everyone's experience with preorders, does Apple usually delivery on launch date (24th in this case)? What are the chances of them being late?

(talking about major cities, not some remote area)

If your preorder delivery date says April 24th, it will be delivered on the 24th basically no matter what, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Generally yes, you should expect delivery on the 24th. Especially so for the Apple Watch as Apple are pushing home delivery hard it seems.

That said, I remember receiving my iPad mini launch-day pre-order so late that I was able to order another one from a local company and have it delivered by them before the Apple one had even arrived, which I then returned (because I'm impatient).

I'm banking on a launch-day delivery (taking the day off).

The phones I have pre-ordered in the past, have all arrived on the launch day. Though it depends on the courier, and you being home at the time of delivery.

I hate the word "pre-order"....it is ORDERING ...until they run out of stock, any orders submitted on 4/10 will deliver via fed ex on fri 4/24. The fed ex track will be a few China stations, then Alaska, then to you. An apple launch has generally, never been any diff....

It's allways fedex?

Pretty sure not all orders placed on 4/10 will deliver on 4/24 haha. I'm pretty sure they don't hault preorders once stock for 4/24 is gone. All that happens is it starts giving future delivery dates when stock will be back so it can be sent to you.

Yes and no.

FedEx has an exclusive agreement with Apple to deliver Apple's devices.... but FedEx does use other carriers for the final few miles to consumer's homes. This includes UPS and USPS.

FedEx actually delivers United States Postal Service mail too! It's all very confusing. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-fly-mail-for-postal-service-for-10-5-billion

Interesting, I've never had a Fed Ex delivery from Apple handed over to UPS, USPS or any other carrier. I've had this occur with other companies but never with Apple.

That why I said " as long as stock lasts". Anything ordered on 4/10 at the opening salvo will be fulfilled 4/24, IMO. I am simply commenting on the word "pre order" as it's mis leading. It is an ORDER on 4/10.

This has been my experience as well . . . all the way back to the very first iPhone.

FedEx only has so many delivery trucks, and they don't service every single address in the United States. It's not profitable. Places like northern Alaska - it's so remote, that FedEx won't ship there. They'll ship to somewhere like Anchorage, AK and then hand it off to the USPS to deliver it the rest of the way. The USPS is required by law to deliver to ALL addresses - even though it may not be profitable to do so.

Also, for times like Christmas, where there are a huge number of deliveries, companies like UPS and FedEx have agreements to help each other, and use other delivery services. And FedEx is not in every country, but delivers in most every country - they use other local delivery services after delivering the packages by plane to a city in those countries.

(I worked at FedEx at one time and found this information out there - very interesting)

They don't use FedEx here in the UK. Here they use either UK Mail, UPS or TNT. I suspect with the preorders starting two weeks before release initial orders at least should be delivered on the 24th.

It will be fun to see how fast our early orders move to the preparing to ship stage. With only two weeks until delivery they will need to start sorting and printing labels pretty quickly. I DO think it will help that the internals are all identical with the case and bands being the only difference. No different models for each carrier around the world plus each memory configuration.

They could even base the delivery promise on parts available on the 8 basic mass produced cases. (I think edition will take a special process). If each band is separately boxed like we saw in one of the pictures then they could quickly piece together the final orders.

The biggest reason I am anxious to get my order in quickly is I expect the SS with Link to be very popular.

You'll know immediately on order confirm what day you'll get it. This is a cake launch for Apple vs any phone/ ipad launch.....

This will not be a "cake launch". I feel that the Apple Watch will be the quickest "sold out" possible.

Country Pre-orders starting time
Australia 5:01 PM (17:01), April 10
China 3:01 PM (15:01), April 10
France 9:01 AM (9:01), April 10
Germany 9:01 AM (9:01), April 10
Hong Kong 3:01 PM (15:01), April 10
Japan 4:01 PM (16:01), April 10
United Kingdom 8:01 AM (8:01), April 10

North-American time zones Pre-orders start at:
Pacific time zone (PDT) 00:01 AM, April 10
Mountain time zone (MDT) 01:01 AM, April 10
Central time zone (CDT) 02:01 AM, April 10
Eastern time zone (EDT) 03:01 AM, April 10

I live the Eastern time zone and i feel that regardless of where you are, any attempt to order three-four hours after the starting times, is too late with "Sold Out" to "4-6 weeks delivery" to a late May delivery.

I'm assuming that if you preorder within the first hour on 10/4 then you'll get your Apple Watch delivered on 24/4.

Reason being that once you've preordered on 10/4, Apple have two weeks until launch date to start shipping these things out from China (Probably)

If Apple have given themselves 2 weeks after preorder date then I assume most should get their AW's on 24/4.

Are you guaranteed one if you do in-store pickup? I've always done this method but as I'm in the process of moving right as its delivered, I'm hesitant to get it shipped.

= cake launch...

As of 5:22 PM EST The Apple Watch Pre-Orders were NOT a Cake Launch. All Apple Watch Models (Sport, Watch, Watch Edition) are all set for shipment in June/July. Anyone who pre-orders any of the Apple Watch will most likely have to wait until June/July or early August. Right on time for the October iPhone

Wasn't that about 14.5 hours since ordering started? I ordered mine when the store opened and am quite happy with my ship date.

IT went very smoothly. Do not think it ever went down. Order Status links did not work last night but they did this morning when I got up.
