A $300 Enclosure?

How many people would need to see my Apple display in order for me to justify spending $300 USD on it?

Hit the nail on the head with that one. SO the question is, "should I drop another $300 for:
-A shiny enclosure.
-ONE extra firewire and ONE extra USB, vs. 3 USB on the Dell.
-A lower quality screen."

Haha. Honestly. I bought a Dell a week ago and spent the remainder on an O. Now thats what I call a better deal 😉

I'd really like to hear some of the people claiming the Dell is better back up their claims.

I've been researching Apple monitors (new&old) for a couple of weeks now, and nearly all the reviews I've read have been excellent.

Also, Apple monitors are SWOP-certified for color accuracy.

That's easy, as I presume people are referencing the specifications of the two monitors. In every area the Dell is "better" or equal to the Apple specs, sans the Firewire ports. Anything else is purely personal preference.

Others have covered the many advantages that the Dell monitor has over the Apple (contrast ratio, rotates, multiple inputs, PIP, etc) so it should make the decision fairly easy for a user.

If asthetics really are important -- and money isn't an issue -- get the Apple. Otherwise, at $550, the Dell is a steal and is a better monitor.

Speaking of the Dell, I had two dead pixels that were annoying me after a month of use. I picked up the phone and called Dell. I had no trouble getting them to authorize a replacement unit. For two pixels I consider that a very liberal exchange policy, especially a month later. New unit is perfect. I believe Apple's stated deal pixel replacement policy is between 5-6 pixels.

The Dell is, at worst, equal to the Apple, but it is much cheaper, and has multiple inputs.

Unless you are just addicted to Apple and insist on aluminum, there is no reason to buy the Apple that I can see...apart from *maybe* this SWOP s***...whatever 🙄
