Is nobody else seeing this issue at all?
I received it once when I connected the USB C cable to USB A to a Surface Pro computer. I was trying to get the webcam to work but I had to exchange the display. This is while the monitor was connected to my Mac Studio with Thunderbolt also. I think it has something to do with that cable connection. I haven’t seen that message again since I removed the cable from the Surface. The Surface Pro is connected via mini DisplayPort.

So I have a few Macs that I have to switch between, so I have to admit that the KVM feature is interesting.

I'm glad to hear that it sounds like MacOS will treat it as a Retina display with effective 3k resolution.

One question though -- what happens if I hook up a Mac that does not support 6k? Will it just render at 4k/5k?

Hi all. To all U3224KB owners, I would really super appreciate it if you could please let me know: would you deem it feasible to use the monitor at 3840 x 2160? That's how I'm using my Apple Studio 5K Display, but I have to sit pretty close to it and zoom everything in a notch or two. I'm wondering if the extra inches on the Dell would allow me to run this scaled resolution and read everything comfortably. I'd be a happy camper if so. I am running a 16" MacBook with M1 Pro. Thank you.

If you haven't, I would try looking through your devices in System Settings / General / System Report / USB. You should see Current Available (mA) and Current Required (mA) for all USB devices. Maybe that will help you determine if it is related to the monitor. I've used that to track down a USB device that was drawing too much power for the hub it was on.

For my eye comfort, I'm using the screen at 2048 x 1152 and it's great. I compared it to my iMac 27" and the quality is virtually the same.

Ah ha thanks for that I wasn't aware the culprit could be identified via that method. I ended u doing a factory reset on the monitor and since doing that the issue has not come up again. If it does though I'll do as you say and see what transpires.

I'm happy with mine too, even thought mine have IPS Glow issue(Dell scheduled to replace it on first week of July), other than this issue, the Monitor is perfect for my usage and I just bought it for $2599.

How did you get it at that price? Thanks.

Just for info, the one I've been trying to return for about 2 weeks is still sitting here. I've never had this sort of issue with Apple when it comes to returns or repairs.

Did you purchase direct from Dell? If yes, do you think having the Pro support with advanced replacement make a difference? Even standard states Advanced Replacement. Thanks. Edit: seems you want a return, not exchange. Probably no difference.

How come you are returning it? Anyhow I'm going to wait another year or two with my 3840x2560 (3:2) Huawei 28.2" and then reassess the >4K market. If necessary I'll buy a new Mac mini Pro or Mac Studio at that time too if necessary, to replace my M1 Mac mini.

I was keen on this, but am now leaning to buying a Samsung Viewfinity S9 as a temporary monitor until 32” mini-LED 8K monitors come. They aren’t that far away with a few hitting production this year.

4K resolution at 2x is really, really appealing.

? ViewFinity S9 is 5K 27".

FWIW, my Huawei 28.2" 3840x2560 monitor has the same pixel density as a 4K monitor at 27", so 2X scaling would be 1920x1280. However, I run at 2304x1536.

On something like a ViewFinity S9, 2X scaling would provide 2560x1440. I'd prefer to run 2304x1296, but for some reason Apple hasn't offered this resolution on other 5K monitors or 5K iMacs, so I suspect Apple wouldn't offer it on the ViewFinity S9 either. To get that you'd need to run a third party app. In contrast, on 4K monitors, Apple does offer 2304x1296. 🙃

Yeah. My plan is to put that in portrait next to a larger screen in landscape. From what I’ve seen, 32” screens are too big for portrait and you get all kinds of colour shifting issues.

I received the monitor today. I've only had it hooked up for about 30 minutes, but here are some preliminary thoughts.
  • The increased contrast ratio is noticeable and appreciated, compared to my ASD.
  • It's still an IPS screen, and there is some clouding/bleed at the top corners of the screen, in addition to the normal glow. I'll get a better feel for it after the sun goes down.
  • System Information reports the resolution as 6144 x 3456, unlike a previous screenshot someone shared that showed it as 8K.
  • The matte screen seems more aggressive than the M32U I sold earlier this year. It definitely decreases the sharpness of the pixel density with text in comparison to my ASD. It's still better than a 4K display, but it's not as sharp as a glossy screen. I still think I prefer this over the glossy coating on the UP3218K, though. (Edit: After spending some more time with it I don't notice it, but my initial impression was the coating was noticeable.)
  • KVM works great with my USB DAC.
  • As someone else reported, it works at only 30Hz with my 2019 Intel MBP. My M1 Pro works at 60Hz as expected.
  • The bezels don't bother me. The screen is so large that they fade away into the background when looking directly at the screen.
  • I haven't tested the built-in speakers or webcam yet.
  • Elder Scrolls Online and World of Warcraft stay above 60Hz at native resolution with my RX 7900 XTX -- at least during the limited time I spent running around to test it. For more demanding games I would probably play at 3072 x 1728 with Integer Scaling enabled. That would provide the same pixel density as a 27" 1440p monitor. I haven't tested that yet.
I have MacBook Pro 13 2019 and looking for a way to connect it to this monitor (which I haven't ordered yet). Checking Apple Pro XDR requirements I noticed that it won't work with my laptop unless connected through Blackmagic eGPU (with updated firmware). I bought used eGPU for £200 and tested it on my 4k Samsung TV. When connected directly it has something like HD/30Hz maximum resolution, but through Blackmagic I managed to get 4K/60. I hope the same trick will work with Dell monitor. I still haven't decided yet, but it would be nice to find if MacBook Pro 13 2019/BM eGPU/Dell U3224 combinaion will lead me to 6K/60. Probably it is worth just buying and trying. I can always return it (or wait for M3 Pro laptops which I am planning to buy) if it doesn't work.

Black Magic eGPUs don't support DSC and Dell U3224 doesn't support dual tile mode like the XDR so you won't get 6K60. Get a new eGPU. Sonnet eGPU Breakaway Puck RX 5500 XT/5700 supports Thunderbolt displays like the Black Magic eGPU does and should support DSC. Or get a normal eGPU with upgradeable dGPU.

The Dell U3224KB is on sale in Canada right now, for CA$3262.49 (25% off). That's about US$2458. What are sale prices like in the USA? (Sorry, I haven't been closely following the pricing in this thread.)

Looks like the price is at $2399.99 in the US directly on Dell's site, currently. If you can stack that with the 10% new customer deal, seems like a pretty decent deal.

Hmm… It was US$3199.99 yesterday on the US site. I wonder if $2399.99 is the new price going forward.

How would one get a 10% coupon?

I had the 10% coupon and it was not eligible when I tried to apply it on that monitor.

I unfortunately decided against buying the 6K Dell because I would much rather have a glossy display. I sincerely hope that there will be a glossy version again. I think it's just terrible how the picture quality falls off to the side when the display has a matt coating.

The matt screen is one of the features that interested me about this monitor. I have always preferred a matt finish and was disappointed when Apple stopped offering them in MacBook Pro's. My old 17" MacBook Pro had a matt screen that I preferred when editing images in the field for fast submittal when shooting sports. I absolutely love the matt screens on my NEC MultiSync PA272W's. It could be because photo editing has always been my priority. I'm not sure if I'll feel the same when I start editing 4K video.

It depends on the quality of the matte coating.

My Huawei MateView 28.2" has light falloff at the edges to begin with because of uneven backlighting, but that is made all the more noticeable by the matte surface. Off-axis brightness is noticeably diminished.

In contrast, my Apple 30" Cinema HD Display has minimal light falloff at the edges, despite its matte surface. Overall I still really like the ACD, but I don't use it anymore though because it's ancient without proper support by Apple Silicon Macs, it's not HiDPI, and my particular unit from 16 years ago (!) has developed significant image retention.
