I'm looking at purchasing this Dell 9 netbook:

Dell Inspiron Mini Netbook with 4GB solid state drive, 512MB of SDRAM, 8.9"

He wants $299 says brand new, etc, etc.
Here's pic, is this the one that is compatible w/ Leopard?

Not a good deal. They WE'RE going for $199 (that exact model) from Dell. It's now discontinued. You'll have to upgrade the SSD, though. 4GB is too small.

You can still buy the Mini 9 as an "A90" on Dell's Business Site. $294 with a 16GB SSD and 1GB RAM and all black looks waaaaay better.

Or get the Mini 9 from the "home" outlet or A90 from Business Outlet.

It isn't a terrible bother, but you will likely get better advice in a forum dedicated to 'hackentosh's. That said, an a90 would be a much better deal for your $300.
