The only PCs I've ever seen than have any type of chic to their look are the Alienware computers.

I find that SONY with their VAIO-line is perhaps the only PC-builder with a strong design-team and a line of though that seems to follow through even to the smaller details.

Looks aren't everything. It really is "what is on the inside that counts".
*Skulking, due to using a cheesy cliche*
The Powerbooks are sexy as hell, yeah, I want one, no, I don't need one, and that is the closest I have ever come to falling to the "gotta-get-it--it's-sexy" schtick. They can dress it up however they want, I STILL LOVE MY MAC...I am still happy with what I have and they can't tempt me with their "siren-like" line. I know what is right for me...marketing be damned....

I agree, Sony has had nice boxes for a long time. What was it Jobs said "Dell sells computers by being Wal-Mart, Apple sells computer by being inovative"

Ugly boxes.

Maybe that is too harsh, at best neutral ( "meh" ) boxes.

If their goal was too be bold and stylish, they failed. Serious risks have to be taken to achieve either goal- Dell is playing it too safe to ge the results they want.

While Dell is not in "trouble" financially, they (by their own admission) have been selling a lot of the wrong systems. Focus has been on volume of sales instead of quality ( and maximizing each sale, so we spend $1,000 instead of $450). They have "left money on the table" and I see this as their attempt to try to capture users (like say - apple fans) who are willing to pay more for performance and expect some style.
