Cool. I say the exact same thing about apple. Crappy keyboard, everything soldered on board so you cannot repair anything. over inflated performance claims. Glass jaw durability.....

Before Dell bought Alienware, it was a revered product by the PC gaming community. Owning one was a source of pride. That isn't the case any longer. Alienware if overpriced crap. Just open one of those Aurora monstrosities up and you can see/feel how ridiculously cheap the entire thing is. Exactly as GN accurately did in his video.
GN and Linus are highly respected in the PC community. No one does analysis of case designs as well as GN. Period. He is an expert. People should listen to him.

Again, They are people who have a youtube channel to make money. Therfore, any heading like this will garner clicks and views. Their "professional opinions" mean nothing. I think linus is extremely entertaining...Gospel? Hell no. If I listened to anything on the internet I would be wasting thousands of extra dollars buying an mac pro. I saved thousands, and got a machine just as powerful.

They make money on YouTube because of their informed analysis. You keep making this false equivalency that trusting these guys is the same as trusting "anything on the internet". That is just silly. These guys have built a reputation over years. But fine.....tell us how their analysis of the hardware is wrong and expose their clickbait.

Well..... Like I've already stated in this thread - the dude bought a LOW end machine then acts shocked that he received a LOW END machine....
If he has 'built a reputation over the years' as you say then I'd certainly hope the dude is in fact making a click bait video as he should have been well aware of what he was going to get BEFORE he placed the order.. Ya know, 'informed analysis' and all that jazz..

was Dell ever good? I had one, once, ugly and poorly built. My kids got a couple of Dell craptops over the years, ugly, cheaply made, poorly build, didn't last. For all the complaints about Apple providing support and extended repairs for things that come up out of warrant, Dell never, ever, ever did this.

As far as the "low end" review, you are mischaracterizing what he said.

He clearly says the $900 Dell isn't a bad deal for what you get component-wise. He points out the parts are proprietary. He also talks about the horrible build quality. Remember, this isn't a stand-alone review of this Dell. GN has a series of reviews on pre-builts that he is comparing to. So you are leaving out a lot context and substance of his review.

Linus did the secret shopper twice. Both times Dell was one of the ones that failed on many criteria. Few comments here are guilty of what so many do. They base their entire opinion and world view from only their own prism. Therefore nothing is true or accurate if it's different from their anecdotal experience.
I myself haven't purchased a Dell product in years. 2008 is when I last purchased a Dell Laptop. When laptops were still easily serviceable and modular. I've only built my Desktops. And my more recent laptops were used off Craigslist. Or refurbished from Amazon. I am in the market for something new I can use in my bedroom. As a pseudo desktop replacement. Dell is not on my list to consider.

Right. When you were talking about a "low end PC" I thought you were talking about the Alienware that I had referred to. Like I just said, we were not talking about the same thing.
Why are you making a big deal about that?
That's the thing that rubs me the wrong way - Dell has one job, and that's making PCs and yet they're doing such a crappy job. Yes, its a low end machine, but that sounds more like a crutch or justifying bad behavior - especially when other companies are able to make a decent 900 dollar machine.
On the Alienware side, the sins are more egregious simply because its marketed towards gamers and its a higher end machine, i.e., expecting a higher quality build

He compares it to a Walmart computer yet the Walmart computer is nowhere to be found in the video. Am I to take his word for it? If he really wanted to show how bad the Dell build quality is compared to the Walmart PC then he should have had them side by side and pointed out the differences. He didn't and I am left wondering why......
Was the build low end? Yup... Did he buy a low end machine? Yup... Did he get what he ordered? Yup! Did he know exactly what he was going to get before he ordered? I believe he did, without a doubt..
I am not doubting the build was bad, nor am I doubting that he had hidden charges. What I still have an issue with is the click bait'ness of the video. The man knew exactly what he was getting when he ordered it and it was ordered for a reason!
The Ailenware video is troublesome as are the hidden and added charges...

This is why the analysis done by GN and Linus are important. There are better options available when shopping for pre-builts. And a "gaming computer" with proprietary parts like this are just ridiculous. One of the most important reasons for having a gaming PC is the ability to upgrade.

Technically Dell does market the G5 5000 as a gaming PC. I wonder if they have updated the cooling solution since the review.

In my 15 years using Dell, I have to say that the low end consumer line of PCs are crap. You would be lucky to have it last 90 days.
However, our organization buys only enterprise servers & commercial/business lines of both Dell desktops and laptops which are custom imaged for our needs and lasts at least 5+ years.
As for personal, I love the Alienware displays - super good performance on my flight simulator (Dell 9020 MT w/ i7 & 32GB RAM).
