    Hello,

This may have been answered before but I couldn't locate it with search. I have a 2013 nMP 6 core with D300 graphics processors under Mavericks OS. I use a Apple Thunderbolt Display and the new Dell P2715Q 4k monitor. The only real issue with the Dell is the USB ports are not working. I am using the Dell supplied Displayport cable, which seems to work fine display-wise with the nMP Thunderbolt port.

Anyone have the USB ports working on the Dell P2715Q?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

My only suggestion would be to try a different cable. If that doesn't work then it's the monitor - perhaps Dell will do a firmware update later?

Also a bit cheeky of me, hijacking your post and not answering your question, but how do you find this monitor? I was thinking of buying one for my nMP - as a photographer I want a 4K monitor that has good colour accuracy and uniformity. I don't want to pay Eizo prices for a monitor if I don't have to.

    Thanks

    Shaun

    Hi Shaun,

I'll try another cable, although I don't think is the issue since the display works.

Not cheeky, and not hijacking at all...this is what the site are supposed to do inform each of us.

I am a serious photographer myself and have to say the Dell P2715Q display is very good compared to my Thunderbolt display. The text and graphics are much better, and the text clarity is as good as I recall seeing on the 5k iMAC retina.

The Dell comes with a factory calibration report which shows sRGB Delta error, grey scale tracking, gamma, and overall brightness Uniformity (25 sites). I calibrated my home monitor with ColorMunki.

I was so pleased with the home P2715Q that I got 2 for my office use, replacing my older Dell displays. I used to get bad headaches at the office, now none. The text quality is really good at any resolution, I use 2560 by 1440 because at 4k res the text is too small for my eyes.

For less than $600 from Dell (B&H) I think this is a very good deal. I am contemplating getting another for home and replacing my Thunderbolt display, but I will need to get the USB ports working >:).

    Cheers,

    Mike

Not sure I am reading this correctly ... but, did you also connect a USB uplink cable between the monitor and your Mac? That will give you 3 USB ports at the monitor.

I am using the P2715Q with a cMacPro using the Display Port and USB3 uplink cable and am quite pleased with the results. A very nice display!

    Hi,

I just spent about 2 hours with Dell Support being transferred around and whatnot. Finally got a lady that asked if I had the USB cable connected between the monitor and computer. I did connect the USB cable and now the USB ports work on the monitor.

I guess I thought the Displayport cable & Dell display worked like the Thunderbolt cable & Display, where the USB is supported in the single Thunderbolt cable, no need for USB cable.

I should have tried this , my bad!!

    Thanks for the enlightenment!!

    Cheers,

    Mike

    2 hours, nice...
This is not Thunderbolt cable, just normal cable DP-mDP. Thunderbolt uses the same connector as Mini DisplayPort.
You can find in "System Report" -> Graphics/Displays that this is:
    Connection Type: DisplayPort

I think only Apple Thunderbolt Display have this feature.
