Dell ships 27-inch display using iMac's panel

Both CCFLs and WLEDs use phosphorus to generate white light. I am still puzzled, will have to research it a little bit more (are we comparing apples and apples here? - pun not intended).

It's fine to do with a monitor (same manufacturer, same panel, different brand), but please stop comparing Dell's "crapware" with Apple's iMacs. Please.
A computer it's not "all about tech specs".
And, before you ask, in my organization we have something like 60 Dell desktops (and several notebooks), different models.

Called today trying to get this for 750. Rep basically laughed at me. I even had my IT see how much it would be under corporate account, and it wasn't 750.

Figured as much. I've been able to get it around $1k, but will sit on the sidelines for a bit more. I'm holding out hope that Apple will introduce a new monitor, but it doesn't seem likely. Plus, given the issues with the 27" iMac, I'm not so sure I'd be first in line to purchase from Apple.

I was just trying to see if what TennisandWallet was saying was true. I actually knew before calling there was no way. I was involved with ordering 50 pc's for our new building from dell. I know how the pricing game works, and I knew for a 1 pc order, there was no way I was going to recieve any discount.
As for anandtech, I don't know about this particular monitor deal, but the hot deals are always out of stock when I go to order them. I just don't have time to camp the site for new deals.
Here's a 24" cinemavew display. For $500 it aint bad. I don't know if they're going to manufacture a 27" in the future though.

it is very attractive indeed, but what's about tech specs ? I can't find any on their web site (only resolution, input/output and basics specs).
Is it a LED display ?
I looked all over the site too and it doesn't say...which leads me to believe that it is CCFL not LED. The response times and viewing angles also suggest that it isnt IPS either.

How many times does it have to be said the price of the Dell monitor will drop over time unlike the imac. As far as I know the Dell doesn't have yellowing issues, tons of dead pixels, blotches behind the moniter or a laptop permanently attached to it either.
With both AMD and Intel coming out with six core desktop CPU's In a couple of weeks your imac's are going to be middle of the pack computers just like they've always been anyways.

I was just thinking that. The monitor looks decent from the front, but the back does not have a very attractive design. Also, volume-wise, this thing does not appear any smaller than a 27" iMac.
The U2410s went down to 499 again recently on the small business website.
I'm not a monitor expert, but from my experience the average panel isn't very good, but this is what most people buy so price just dictates what sells, not a price/performance balanced look. Using 24 inch 1920X1200 monitors as an example, many are around $300, but they aren't very good. Professionals know this and some very high end monitors are around $1000. There seem to be only a few that offer great performance at a reasonable price. The Dell U2410 is one of these.
I'd like to get a 2560 width monitor, but they are too expensive right now. There's only a handful of them and the 2560X1600 30 inchers are around $1200 at the cheapest. This new dell U2711 seems to be the least expensive way to get the resolution in a decent monitor, but it too is still too pricy for me.
Also, at 1099 you might as well get the 30 inch samsung that has more vertical resolution for 1200.

This is a huge rip off. You can get the same specs from a $280 monitor without looking hard.
So in a couple of weeks our i7 iMacs currently beating the 16 cores pcs on geekbench will be "middle of the pack"? Or you mean they will be beeten by a 4000$ mac pro with a 1000$ plastic monitor (for which at that price you can get 2 iMacs)? Beaten at what anyway? I have trouble pushing the i7 processor over the 25% mark with many applications running and complex routing.
Well if you are referring to the post I made before I can see the irony. But I figured this cinema wannabe is probably a low quality monitor in a fancy case, so if you are even considering it you might as well by a cheap monitor that's actually cheap.
