Who knows, Apple might still release a 24-inch 4K SST Retina TBD now that there are some nice panels available. I would trade my UP2414Q for one if they did.:) That said, those problems with the UP2414Q are way overblown -- not planning to trade it for a new UP2415Q.

Maybe... a 24" 4K at 180PPI is not quite up to retina display density though. Apple seems to have established 200PPI as the standard for retina computer displays so I see the next iMac refresh including a 21" 4K retina display to go along with the new 27" 5K. When DP1.3 is incorporated into Thunderbolt and offered in MacBooks we could then see a 27" 5K TBD but that could be at least another year away.

I just installed a UP2414Q monitor flawlessly in under 15 minutes under Yosemite onto my wife’s loaded late 2013 15" Retina MacBookPro, which I then put in clamshell mode. To our aging eyes, the 24” display's crisp, clear fonts and gorgeous graphics seem virtually identical to the Retina display. My display came direct from Dell and Displayport 1.2 @ 60Hz now is the default setting. On my request, Dell matched the Amazon $736 price.

Nice. Glad they seem to have sorted out the issues with it. It bodes well for the 2015 models which I'm patiently waiting for.

Just for the heck of it, I tested the UP2414Q with my 2 1/2 year old loaded Retina Macbook Pro. It works just fine despite warnings it will not work with any MacBook older than a late 2013 model.

When a 2nd gen 4K comes out I expect to get one for my wife's MacBook Pro and move this 1st gen Dell UP 2414Q to my MacBook Pro. (She does real work with Photoshop and spreadsheets. I'm retired.)

I suspect it did. I didn't have time to check that out although even if it did it would not matter much to me. (My wife "needed" her new monitor back asap.# )

I had a UP2414Q monitor for a week, and just sent it back today. Overall, it was a fantastic monitor (though there was some backlight bleed that was slightly annoying on dark images).

That was bearable, and I would have kept it - except there was no way to use the hardware calibration software it comes with. The drivers don't work with OS X, and others on Dell forums are having the same issue.

I decided to go with an NEC ea244uhd. It's the same basic screen, albeit with a much higher quality setup from everything I've read online. NEC is also much more experienced (or willing?) in supporting Macs.

The NEC is more expensive, so I wish the Dell would have worked out. But, not being able to calibrate the screen was a deal breaker for me.

I'm a noob when it comes to calibration so forgive me, but don't both of these monitors (the Dell for sure) come factory calibrated to within very good margins on both sRGB and Adobe RGB? What do you gain by calibrating it again? How much can you improve a monitor already calibrated to tolerances that cannot be seen with the naked eye?

And when you say there was backlight bleed is that before or after using the uniform backlight setting? Did that make any difference?

Did you consider the new Dell P2415Q before choosing the NEC? Why did you disqualify it?

It's great that they calibrate them from the factory (and it did look really good), but monitor colors shift over time. A lot of people recommend recalibrating every few months, though I'm usually good with two or three times a year. I happen to be one of those people that can notice very subtle shifts in color (which has been a curse when dealing with iPads and Macbook Pro displays).

The backlight bleed is mostly unrelated to uniformity, and more based on how the display is assembled. It was present with or without uniformity turned on. Google 'UP2414q backlight bleed', and you'll see some examples. Again, it was bearable. I've seen worse, but only on much cheaper monitors.

I looked at the Dell P2415Q, but it doesn't have Adobe RGB mode, nor does it have hardware calibration (or uniformity from what I can tell on their website), so while it looks to be a really good monitor for most purposes, it's not quite the caliber I'm looking for.

I have connected my MBPr mid-2014 to UP2414Q (rev A01), may I know the resolution 2560x1440 can support 60Hz?
Seems I cannot and image shows all resolutions from 3rd apps Display Menu (free version)
