I just ran into this: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=470-abhh

It's the exact hardware I'm looking for, HDMI port, Ethernet and USB pass thru. Does anybody know if this would work in OS X?

Update

I went ahead and ordered it. I found the generic DisplayLink MacOS driver for the same chipset on DisplayLink's website.

I'll report back when I get it.

So what happens if you didn't load any drivers, and is the ethernet port recognised at all?

I'm sure Apple has inbuilt hardware built into it's adapter to be recognisable by the Macbook USB C port. I hope you have the option to return the adapter, just in case. Best of luck though. :)

I have one dock like that, with DisplayLink chips.

USB works, Ethernet works (with driver, and it's slower than Thunderbolt to Ethernet or real Ethernet) and video works with the last driver, but it's very slow/buggy. It's OK for "works", not for video, game or heavy load application and application who use the GPU.
