If only Apple had competitor without any of those issues so you could vote with your wallet! Then the government wouldn't have to come in and dictate how Apple's software works.
I think this fundamentally misunderstands competition in the context of digital gatekeepers. If I dislike what Apple is doing because they are being anticompetitive I cannot just switch to a competitor over it; the competitors are all digital gatekeepers themselves, are likely engaged in anticompetitive behavior themselves (perhaps of a different sort), and I cannot afford to do it, and they've all erected moats that make the switch incredibly painful. It's somewhat akin to saying "don't like your towns behavior? just move!". No. I completely reject that kind of thinking. Choosing between Apple and Android is fundamentally different than choosing between Cheerios and Corn Flakes. Digital Gatekeepers have to be kept in check.

Why don’t Nintendo just release these old games on the App Store? They’ll make money and probably won’t eat into their console business

I've never quite understood this either.

It seems like there's a lot of demand for some really old content that could be very "easy money".

It's whack a mole that impossible to win to try to stop people from playing old content via emulators ... why not try to provide it and capture that audience?

I'm amazed there's no "Nintendo Classic" service of some kind to cater to this.

There is. It's on Nintendo Switch Online, and they charge a subscription for it. They've been doing this since the Wii at least, so that's ultimately why they fight emulators... protecting an ongoing revenue stream. I agree that their approach leaves a lot to be desired and could be done better, but that's absolutely the reason.

No, because nobody gets hurt. Or have losses in this case.
You literally recommended that people do this rather than pay for games:

Seriously, why would one not use emulator and paying instead more 100s € just to play a game? That's dumb tbh.
So yes, people get hurt and have losses. Creators, developers, publishers, the store the game would have been purchased from, etc…

Okay, fair enough, I missexplained myself. I meant why should one pay 100s for an old GBA, GBC, N64 etc. you name it, game at some shady reseller, if you just want to play the game? I'm not talking about games which can be purchased, except from some overpriced eBay sellers.

The collector market is honestly out of control. I wish they would license a low cost manufacturer to produce new runs of old titles once a console goes out of production. Make them obvious, like a different color plastic or something and no original art or manual. So that if you really want to collect the original classic releases, you still can. But if you really just want to play the damn game, you don't have to hack your device and pirate the games.

I could be wrong, but I bet something like that would bring down collector prices too since it would split the market and make it less favorable for speculators.

Yea that, or make them available digitally. I wouldn't mind like paying 1-5 bucks for tittles, like having a Nintendo eShop for Mac, iOS, Windows you name it to old games.
