OP, I want to reiterate that Best Buy is easier credit and worth the try- Barclays gave me a paltry credit line with the application through Apple store and I had to call them back and give them what for! It was after speaking with a customer rep and giving permission for her to pull my credit report that she more than doubled the original amount line of credit. I haven't had bad credit ever and over the last ten years I have reached a score of 840 simply by purchasing on credit and paying off quickly, or leaving a balance for six months and then paying off completely.

Barclay's is a hard ass. ;)

Update: tried for best buy- turned down

Called Barclay as a last resort and after a few questions was approved for a 1500.00 limit- Awesome

I am thinking of the 11.6/128/4GB - I like the 13 inch but I really want this computer for easy use when typing notes in class and I think the 11.6 will fit better on my desk. I tend to have a drink (sealed container) and my sunglasses sitting on the desk with me and I am afraid it would be too cramped on top with a 13 inch- Not sure though because I have yet to be able to visually see how it would look

What recon number did you call? I'd like to give them a call. Also what sort of questions? What you plan to purchase, income, etc?

edit: Derp, SirLance99 beat me.

I called 866-408-4064

They asked about my income- How much I was wanting to spend -what was the reasons for credit inquiries within the last 6 months - if I had any revolving credit cards (no) - and the name of the creditor for the car I purchased 2 weeks ago- that was it- I told him I wanted 1500.00 and after those questions he very casually said he had given me an approval for 1500.00 - very easy. Almost like they want people to call to show their serious.(my confused opinion of course) Either way it took about 3 minutes and no hassle.

Very friendly guy approved me. Awesome!

Edit:

Have you figured out a way to use the card immediately to buy the MBA through Apple.com? It seems like we'll have to wait the week or two for the card to arrive, which I expected. Just wondering if there is a way around that.

I know normally you'd apply, get approved, and be sent to the Apple store to purchase immediately.

I am currently trying to do so- I am picking out what I want on the apple site and then I am going to see if there is a way while going through the checkout procedure- I will let you know

The only thing I can think of is to call Barclay and ask for the card number as you were planning on making an immediate online purchase. Not sure how they'd feel about that, though - especially since we don't have the information to activate the card yet. Hmm.

Be sure to dispute all inquiries. Credit Agencies will usually remove them in lieu of investigating.

Alright! Just ordered my first mac! Got a 11"/128/4GB/1.6 with a knomo sleeve, and a seagate external for less than my approval amount- Awesome!

vty- I was able to order before getting the card by calling 800-MYAPPLE and contacting the sales department. They were able to pull up the Barclay information and order the items I wanted. Easy once I called. Good Luck with your purchase. Glad I could help with getting you approved

Aww yeah. It's on, we'll be in-debt bros together!

I tried the Barclay route and got approved , for $500 lol. Meanwhile, Best Buy has me with a 4k line of credit. So whats the problem? Best Buy doesn't have the latest/greatest Apple releases. Looking at their site today the only Mac computer they offer with Lion is the new Air. Everything they do carry has the smallest amount of ram. I just ordered a new 13" Air straight from the Apple Store and used my Visa card for that (ouch). Sorry Barclay, but you could have been getting a nice monthly payment from moi...

Did you call them or just apply? I wonder if they would have given you more if you had called. I was denied and called and approved for exactly what I was asking for.

I went to Best Buy and tried to apply for credit to purchase the base 2011 MBA 11". I had $700 and the rest would be going on credit. They denied me. I guess it's because I already have credit with the bank Best Buy uses. I applied for the BarClay card a couple of days later, expecting to get denied, and I got a $1300 limit. I was very surprised and pleased! Ordered one right on the spot and will have it payed off in a month. The total came out to $999.34 with the education discount and it shipped today! This will fit in perfectly with my iMac! Can't wait :D

Thanks to the op for posting this. I was also denied when I applied online, however after seeing this thread I decided to go ahead and give a try, called the number you posted. After talking with them answering questions, they went ahead and approved me for a $2,000 limit! Hung up and ordered my Mac air ultimate yesterday. Thanks again for posting this info.

Barclay's and Best Buy likely use different credit reporting agencies. Your credit rating may be different on one system than another. Both are notoriously hard to get approved on, though I think Best Buy is a bit easier.

On the discussion on whether or not to use credit for purchases...when it comes to 0% offers like the 18 month offer through Best Buy and the 12 month offer through Barclays...its better, from a financial standpoint, to utilize no interest debt than to deplete large sums of cash that can be put into interest bearing accounts or saved.

Credit isn't a bad thing, as long as the interest rates are reasonable, the rates are fixed, you have a plan to pay them off, and you have the cash on hand to pay off your debts immediately if need be (except for mortgages and maybe student loans and auto loans). I used to work in banking, and the wealthiest people I've met, were the ones who were very savvy in terms of knowing how to save, invest, and utilize credit when its advatageous.

Also, if you happen to lose your job, its better to have cash in the bank and debt, than no cash in the bank and no debt. I'd rather have bad credit and money in the bank if things ever got really bad.
