Deployed, trying to FaceTime...Help please

I'm currently deployed in "SW Asia" and I'm trying to FaceTime using my MacBook Pro to a friend in Germany. I'm using the FaceTime app on my Mac and they are using iPhone 4's on 4.x.x

Currently when I try to facetime them it fails immediately. I can call my mom back in the states and it works...?

Any help would be appreciated.

Your friend needs to be on a WiFi connection and not a cellular one. Otherwise it should work.
