i have a 2015 macbook air that has slight liquid damage. It boots up and runs fine except the backlight on the display is gone. In the past I had a 2012 Air that was out of warranty that had a similar issue and the apple store offered a "depot repair" fee of 310.00 the would fix any issues. Does anyone know if that applies to one with liquid damage as well?

Ex Genius Here.

No, that Depot flat fee is for "Non-Physical Damage". Let's say your Logic Board goes bad, or Backlight stops working on its own. Physical Damage Depot for a 13" and smaller machine is $755. Sorry :(

Deport Flat Rate repair has 4 tiers.

If Apple determine that it is accidental damage, you might be quoted a higher tier.

Of cause, you never know.
