Hello people, :)

Last week I got the iPhone 13 Mini and my wife got the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

I instantly fell in love with the ProMotion display. Everything else doesn't really intrigue me.

I love the size of the Mini, so easy to carry around. But after seeing the ProMotion, I am extremely tempted to switch.

My question is, say 3 years from now, between the two, which phone do you think would depreciate more than the other?

Your input is highly appreciated. :)

Thank you.

If mini is truly being discontinued and not repurposed as the se model than I can see it holding better value to a pro that could potentially be obsolete if the 14 or 15 have killer features. Mini is a novelty and you’ll be seeing a lot of posts down the road of people regretting not getting one.

Agree with this…

A mint condition original SE with good battery still commands strong value. People will always be in demand for a small device, large devices are easy to come by from any manufacturer.

That was my thought process as well.

Here are my variables:

iPhone 13 Pro:

Pros
- Beautiful screen
- Slightly faster than iPhone 13 Mini

Cons:
- $450 (CAD) extra
- Feels bulkier than iPhone 13 Mini

iPhone 13 Mini

Pros
- Perfect size
- Cheaper

Cons
- No ProMotion
- Sometimes, screen size is an issue

Not sure how to decide...

Cameras are an improvement on the pro as well. My biggest reason I’ll probably go pro is I’ll regret not having a 6.1 display

iPhone 12 mini will depreciate more.

There is theory, and then there are actual values. Look at Swappa average sold prices and you’ll find the 12 Pro Max depreciates less than the 12 mini, relative to the original MSRP.

The pro will always be more desirable than the mini will ever be. The pro beats the mini in every category unless you like the small size. The pro will hold it's value better. You think a Prius C will hold it's value better than a Camry? I don't think so.

I sold my wife’s 4 years old XS with 275£ and my 6 months old 12 Mini with 300£. I thinks that’s enough said. I am back on the Pro line and I regret getting the Mini.

What does that prove? All phones depreciate more in the first year, so it’s not a fair comparison.

12 mini might have depreciated significantly because there is the 13 mini. Same phone, just better in many ways. However after there is no 14 mini and people realize the mini line is discontinued, I think the last available model will hold value very well among the demographics that are looking specifically for a small phone.

As for the Pro - yes, it’s a more desirable smartphone for the majority of people. But think what will happen if the 14 Pro, as rumored, will come without the notch. Suddenly the 13 Pro and all the previous models are looking ancient and obsolete, even if under the hood they’ll still be highly competitive devices.

It’s like $70 bucks. Is that good value?

It is always about demand. Yes, a mini fits a niche market but not as much as the mainstream market who want a bigger screen for gaming, watching video, etc. Even if the mini is discontinued, that market will never match the demand for a larger phone. Lots of people have to buy their phones used, either for younger children, teens who routinely break their phone, or just because of economics. When looking at iPhone vs iPhone, larger screens will always sell for the best prices.

It's relative. You can get about $250 for an XS right now after fees and shipping. That phone is only 3 years old, but has lost 75% of it's value. If you get $200 for a mini 3 years from now (after selling costs), it will have lost 70% of it's value.

Don't know where you sold your mini but I got £420 for my 1 year old mini.

I always get the max models and this year got the 13 Pro Max. I was curious about the mini so bought one and love it. I intend it to be the phone I use when there is the gap between selling the current phone before the new one's come out. In the past I've used crappy phones that find it agony waiting to the new one's to come out. I usually sell around 6 weeks before the new models come out. Having the mini now to use will be a treat.

Anyway, with the mini I keep swopping over from my Max. I truly love them both. And with Apple discontinuing the mini I'm glad I now have one. I've not used a small phone for years and it's just a pleasure to use.
