MBP for one reason and one reason only: Screen resolution. Thats all.

Resolution is extremely important when working in design apps. VERY important. You have tables and tools taking up space and you want to be able to see as much of your work as possible without zooming out a ton. You also will need to have multiple windows open at times.

Forget any other reason, the bottom level MB is plenty powerful for measely 2D apps, but its resolution sucks. If possible get the 17" MBP, especially if you wont be using an external monitor. You do not need to "max out" the upgrades, get the bare minimum and get 2gbs or more of ram at someplace like newegg.com (actually it already comes with 2gbs of ram, which is plenty for student level work and most pro work), ram is the only thing that really matters for stuff like Photoshop (processor speed is completely a nonfactor)
