With the imminent arrival of iOS 14 and its widgets etc and design are Apple trying to make the iPhone without a home button resemble an Android phone? I know there’s a vast difference in the manufacturer but I get the impression what with Dark Sky not being sold in the play store anymore that Apple is trying to corner the market in mobile phones especially, what with things like as I say Dark Sky being stopped in the play store and it being integrated with its sale to Apple into their weather app, that there’ ll be a few more of these sales on the horizon, especially now Tim Cooks become a billionaire

iPhone and iOS will never be anything like google or android.

Using iOS 14 on my xs max, feels nothing like android, still polished, smooth, the best operating system in the world.

I will counter your question with is Google trying to make Android resemble an iPhone with their all-screen devices and gestures?

It has been done to death, but both manufacturers/devices copy features from each other all the time. And I’m all for it personally. Otherwise things will just stay stagnant. Innovation is pretty much dead but copying is well and truly alive.

And I don’t see what Tim Cook’s bank balance has got to do with it.

Could also say if it wasn’t for apple releasing the first iPhone or App Store, google and the other manufactures would still be releasing dumb phones.

Tim Cooks balance was a tongue in cheek joke but seriously when Steve Jobs first presented the iPhone there were no copycat things and when he was alive there wasn’t any that I saw and he was still progressing

When Steve Jobs first presented the iPhone, there was nothing else like it on the market. From there on in all other manufacturers had to change.

That very moment redefined the mobile phone market forever.

So you’re saying because they bought dark sky they are now trying to make one part of their iPhones look like Android phones? Come again?

And there will be less sales because Tim Cook is richer due o the increase in his socks he accumulated running Apple for Steve or alone for almost 20 years?

Sorry you’ll have to make more sense than that. Or I need more coffee. Please elaborate.

No I’m hinting at the fact that apps like Dark Sky are now going only to be used for Apple devices and that I bet now that Apple has started delving into buying what was a third party app once will there be more to come? Will all mobile phones have the same sort of contents

Apple has been buying third-party apps for years just like every other company does. Sleep tracking is another example.

It seems to me that you are coming at this as though this is a new phenomenon. This is just how it works. It always has and always will. There will always be huge similarities between different manufacturers and this isn’t limited to just smart phones. Look at different makes of cars with the features and technologies including in those: the same across all manufacturers.

iOS 14 feels like any other iOS, nothing similar to Android. I think the design changes are subtle enough for you to notice they are new but not crazy different to think they're copying Android. I think it's quite the opposite - more and more Android phone manufacturers are trying to replicate iOS' design.

Apple occasionally buys, small companies either for the staff or the product or both. Even iTunes and Siri are examples form bought-up technology. It’s nothing out of the ordinary for Apple.

Sorry, saw too late that StumpyBlonde answered this already!

iOS and Android will never ever be the same. Android is clunky and cluttered. iOS is smooth and clean. Even with Apple bringing Home Screen widgets and all of that it still looks much cleaner than any Android phone I’ve seen.

I honestly believe that unless you have to have different launchers or some kind of different font or more customizable icons than iOS is truly the way to go.

I’m using iOS 14 on my primary device, and it’s not like Android. It’s the same iOS with some extra features and refinements.

Dark Sky was a major acquisition. I’m curious to see what they do with this. I had the ‘free trial’ that app for a while, ultimately went to AccuWeather, but I definitely will keep my eye on D.S, as it really is one of the better weather apps out there. Especially for the Apple Watch, it’s really unique how it integrates with watchOS.
