Hi, just wondering if our desk that has a depth of 45cm would be sufficient for the new M1 iMac? I would likely order the Magic Mouse over the trackpad should that have a bearing. Anyone have similar sized desks that can share their experiences?

I have a deeper desk but the iMac sits about 45cm from the front edge of the desk. I use mine angled to the side instead of straight on. The back edge of the stand is the rearmost piece which would allow cable space if pushed against a wall. I think you would find it to be a good fit.

It really depends on your eyesight as well as personal preference, doesn't it? For example, I prefer much deeper desks than my wife even though her eyesight is better than mine as she's had Lasik a few years ago and I have not yet. Nevertheless, whenever I sit at her desk using her 27" display I feel that it's too close, and whenever she uses my 27" iMac she tends to lean forward and squint a lot.

You can easily fit the iMac and the keyboard + mouse in 45 cm, but for good ergonomics I would recommend >= 60cm.
In my opinion, you need at least 10 cm of desk space in front of the keyboard to properly rest your palms on the table. The elbows should be by your side and the forearms should be horizontal. If you then reach your arm straight out toward the screen, you should almost touch it but not quite. So the screen should be placed at about full arm's length away from you (~60cm which is also the diagonal of the iMac's display). Of course, some people with poor eyesight may need to compromise on this and bring the screen closer, but I'm considering the average scenario here. By following these guidelines, the back of the iMac's foot is ~ 60cm away from the front of the desk.
