Sometimes on the forums, I see pictures of people's desktops that don't look like they were taken with a digital camera. How do i do this?

Apple Key + Shift + 3
that will take a screenshot

Apple Key + Shift + 4
that lets you select the area of the screen.
 
:apple: + Shift + 4 then spacebar will take a picture of an entire window (without having to drag an area, that is)
