You "think" - based upon what?

No offense, but that is just as subjective and nebulous as anyone arguing the opposite.
This is all anecdotal my friend. But I do read a lot of Mac-centric sites and follow a lot of people in the community, and I can barely recall anyone complaining about this machine, much less there being a generally negative vibe about it.

I have the same spec MacBook Pro aside from my 1TB drive. I have had no issues as described on MacRumors and consider it to be the best MacBook Pro since the mid-2012 to 2015 generation. For owners who intend to use the computer for 6+ years I feel it makes sense to spec the additional memory, graphics, and storage options. I also agree that users who prefer to sell the computer and upgrade within 2-3 years are smart to select the base configuration. Personally I feel the market for used laptops is weak and I prefer to keep the computer for the full generation/design cycle (I have owned one laptop of every Apple generation except for the 2016-2019). In the future, I would like to see Apple offer equipment leasing for consumers that allows users to upgrade— currently those programs are only for businesses or are based on a high interest rate rent-to-own model for persons with no credit.

I totally agree with this.

If a base config works for a person, they should get it. It also helps with the acquisition side in that you can usually find good deals on standard configurations and it's highly advisable to get as good a deal going in as you can, because the resale pricing is softer than it once was.

It really doesn't help that Apple has priced things up at first party retail and then brand new machines are "on sale" all over (not from Apple direct) nearly immediately. They've built in a "hit" to the buyer who chooses to buy from Apple. The only defense for that is "get a great deal whenever you can, on the buy in side, up front".

Locally around me, I've seen base config 16"s, new/sealed, for $1800-1900.
They are legit - people are getting them with redeemed credit card points and looking to cash out.

Always seems to be a debate on the ram choice. The argument is; unused ram is wasted. If you're purchasing to future proof and not going to be hitting that chosen spec regularly until years from now, maybe you should keep the money instead of giving it to Apple. I went with 32gig as my workflows are unlikely to change that much. For say... 6+ years, I'll be itching to upgrade other components if it hasn't broken beyond a significant repair cost. Anyways, you all know your own uses.

Good machine. I still got the popping speakers though. Ghosting? No idea... if I have it, it doesn't bother me.

@morze

Wow… Do you really think you’ll be using this machine in six years?

That seems kind of amazing, as it doesn’t seem like many power users are using 2013 MBPs right now.

The MBP space seems a bit precarious based with where we are at right now in terms of the whole arm transition and better screen technology perhaps right around the corner.

I wish. Nah I don't think I could, I was referring to Jitensha mentioning owners who intend to keep their Macs for 6+ years as an example.

Like I mentioned in the ghosting thread, "Welcome to the Macrumors insane asylum". Just try to forget what you read and enjoy it!
Ha, hard for some people to understand the concept that others are sensitive to things they aren't and yet not crazy.

I do ... still great machine. Just lacks of TB3 and has only 16GB RAM. Otherwise I'd bought a eGPU and would use it right now as a replacement for my 5,1.

I used my last MacBook Pro from mid-2012 to late-2019 which is a very long run. I expect to use my 16-inch MacBook Pro for many years while the switch to new technologies like ARM prove stable. I’m playing it safe in the event the current 16-inch MacBook Pro becomes “the end of an era.”

Quite possibly. That's indeed a good run. But it's clear, it all depends on what you do.

Personally I'd rather load up a machine and keep it for six years vs. buy a base model every three years - switching machines and playing the lottery is a stressful hassle.

Thats my plan as well.. max this out, it will run for 6+ years, could even become a hand me down to one of the kids

Believe me, I’m just as neurotic about screens and I haven’t noticed a thing on my 16 inch.

That doesn't conflict with what I said, though. You're neurotic about what you notice, not about what others do, evidently. Different sensitivities for different users.

Me too!! Well slightly longer....but my MBP was last of the matte screens.
