I AM A LOYAL APPLE CUSTOMER WHO THINKS WE SHOULD BOYCOTT BUYING ANY NEW IPADS.

at least not buy until they actually do something big with it. and i don't mean just a new size!!! i know they feel they don't hae to even try to compete with samsung or surface but i wish they would at least give us some of the stuff these two companies bring to their tablets!!! some ideas of things apple needs to do....

higher resolution screens. like 4K TV's competitors screens are now higher than apple.
outputs and inputs... an HDMI compatible or second lightning, usb or flash memory slot or both!!
more internal flash. 256 maybe even 512
how about running full osx with full osx apps!!
a pen and screen that competes with wacom for pressure sensitivity and tilt.
more than just a home button. you hav a huge border, why not some app specific user definable shortcut buttons?
100% mutlitasking, not the 2 app thing you are about to give us!!!

you don't need to give all of this (though it'd be nice) but give us some! even if it's just of a more exepnsive pro model!!!

i bought your new iphone even though it's already behind the galaxy note and other models that were released before the 6/6+ so can you please give us a pro model ipad!! not a big one an actual pro one!!

UNTIL THEY DO I HOPE SOME OTHER LIKE MINDED PEOPLE WILL ALSO NOT UPGRADE UNTIL THEY DO. I HAVE AND IPAD 3 WITH A CRACK ON THE SCREEN AND I'M STILL NOT GONNA UPGRADE!!

i could see mute remaining hold-down-volume and lock rotation being press-both-at-once..? we all know we're heading to the day our tablets are paper-thin and without any physical buttons anyway, might as well start getting rid of ports and all clicky things before we get too attached...

Come on Apple, hurry up and take my money! ;)

I'm looking for wireless ac. 2GB of RAM would be nice. An ant-reflective display would be most welcome. Touch ID? Meh.

Once released, I would have to decide between Air 1 or Air 2 as the previous generation will drop in price quickly.

Go to a Gazelle or Nextworth now and get a 30 day quote...:)

I lost interest in iPad, 5 years since its introduction and it's still just an oversized iPod touch with stretched-out phone OS.

i would agree and disagree. the phone os part is annoying, but the size makes it much more than a big ipod touch and way more useful. but yeah, i want it to do a lot more!!!

Apple Pay (nfc chip) in an iPad? I guess it's fine but don't really see Apple adding this to a device that people are not carrying around with them everyday. Should I say, going shopping with everyday. I guess it just seems weird to me.

Others out there shop with their iPads in tow? Maybe I'm missing out on something lol

I doubt it will have the NFC chip, but it may support :apple:Pay for online/Safari purchasing as well as - and this is totally off-the-cuff thinking - if one were to pair one's iPad with one's :apple:Watch....

Like I said in the original thread:

I'm doubtful about this. If an A8X does exist it may be restricted to the iPad "Pro".
Where did you come up with the A8X? - neither the MR post nor the original that it 'attacks' mention it...

i could see keeping you ipad in your bag and using the watch, the same way iphone 5 users will be able to do. but chip in the pad? seems silly to hold the big device over the sensor in a store.

well, they gave the i6 the ipads landscape UI so it would have something phones previously didn't have, and if you're looking for apple's 'surface pro' well, i'm guessing that's what oct 16 may be all about. itd be great after this fairly crappy PR month for apple (deservedly or not), to showcase an iPad pro that no one expected.

if there's no pressure sensitivity and/or capability to run OSX i'll be pretty inclined to look elsewhere. i'll be happy to chime in with the rest of 'em about apple being well behind the competitive landscape this time around, and i'm usually not one to take that viewpoint.

edit: think about it - yosemite on your 500gb ipad pro with smart keyboard and stylus, your devices all synced to it? say goodbye to a lot of laptop owners. you could include me in that camp come the ipad pro 2...

Take a stand Apple, just say no!

I'd wish Apple would start the "trend" to remove rear facing camera's on tablets. Perhaps its acceptable on the iPad Mini, but with iPad Air and any larger iPad Apple has planned, Apple just needs to say now.

Seriously a tablet is the worst form of camera short of those big wooden boxes with the black hood you have to put over your head and the large fire bomb used as a flash.

Instead this is what accessories are for, like Sony's hand-held wireless camera lenses. At least then you can sit the tablet on your lap and hold a much smaller and less obtrusive lens to record video or take pictures.

There is nothing worse then someone missing out on real life because they have to record everything with a tablet screen inches in front of their face, but it is worse when you are the person that is forced to sit or stand behind someone that is blocking your view with THEIR tablet. It will be even worse when all those douchey people start using a large iPad Pro as their primary video camera.

force me to hold onto another thing i could lose when i bought the ipad for shooting rough drafts or location scouting scenes with an expensive mobile rig of about 6 other accessories? no thanks. and if they got rid of that camera they'd probably make it thinner and more fragile. no thanks again.

would the lack of iPad mini updates be out of fear of iphone 6 plus cannibalisation?

Also after years of playing around with an iPad 2, I just don't feel it. It's not a device I use a lot.
iOS is way too limited in functionality for work but it's not as portable as an iPhone to do some essential stuff on it.
it's fun for the occasional "i'm on the coach and want to read a website" or a game or so...but the ipad ends there for me.

I would love an ipod touch 6 plus for media consumption and to use as a joystick on my mac games or in the car. Something I can occasionally take somewhere.

The ipad fad seems over, I'd love a new mini or touch plus or something like that.

the site suggests that the second-generation iPad Air 2 will do away with the mute switch to "achieve [a] thinner profile,"

The day Apple sacrifices instant access to mute/rotation lock in favor of making the device thinner is the day I realize Apple has lost its marbles and I start looking into other ecosystems.

Then the day after having found no better options, I will most likely continue with Apple.

I sure do hope that users of the new iPads refrain from sitting on them. Perhaps Apple should include a warning label on them for those that aren't smart enough to figure that out for themselves.

If any of this is accurate, it seems the reason for a lack of "true" multitasking was a need for more RAM. This will upset many iPad Air owners, I'd be surprised if this is omitted from the current iPad model in iOS 8.

The 6 Plus shall defitnetly add a nice touch to iPad apps now with that dual-window esque view in landscape on the Plus

What are you talking about? Android users talk about "true multitasking" on Android all the time, yet apps reload just as much if not even slightly more on Android flagships then they do on the 6.

Although I do agree tablets should automatically sport more RAM.

I want to know about the new displays.

Are we talking iPhone 6 quality? Full sRGB color gamut? Does the iPad go 3X like the 6+? That would make for 2304x3072 @ 396 ppi. Apple would once again lead the industry with the iPad's display.

I was at Costco the other day and the iPad displays look old compared to Samsung's latest. I realize it's partly due to Samsung's oversaturation, which looks better under hard fluorescent lighting, but the iPad screens are showing their age.

If I didn't love my iPhone 6 plus so much I probably would upgrade. But my air is running fine on ios8 and I'm really holdng out in hopes of an iPad plus running some beefed up version of iOS and OSX :)

Why would Apple have to remove the mute switch to achieve a thinner profile? I would think the headphone jack takes up more space than the mute switch and there are no rumors of that going away.

Totally agree that they should add more RAM, but it's just not Apple's style. Unless the Air sees an increase in pixels, it seems likely for Apple to use the A8 across the board in all devices. Easier and more profitable to use the same SoC in every iDevice, and it ensures A8 device users will be compelled to upgrade to new iDevices sooner.
